A house full of art - the villa on Senatorska Street in Poznan's Grunwald district

21 of October '24

The pedlars are coming back to Poznan! In the next video in the series we will learn about the history and modern transformations of a modernist villa on the Kasztelanów estate. Residents will tell why all the buildings there look alike, and how Torun and Crimea meet in Poznań's Grunwald district.

Initiated during the New Plan festival in Poznań, the series "Domokrążcy" has what we expect from a good series - engaging stories, colorful characters and beautiful interiors. The project is jointly organized by the SARP Poznań Branch, the Common Point Association, the Open Center and the Made in art Foundation. Each episode introduces viewers and viewers to the stories of unique interiors and their inhabitants.

Not everything from historic buildings can be saved - but one can bet on nurturing what survives, preserving the character of the place and responsibly making changes. This is how Anna Dembinska-Południak and Zbigniew Taszycki, who since 2011 have been living in a modernist villa on Senatorska Street in the Abyssinia housing estate in Poznan, deal with their space. The building was constructed according to very restrictive guidelines that BGK urban planners drew up back in the early 1930s. Only one type of decoration was allowed, and the dimensions of the building, the angles of the roofs or the location of the entrance doors were strictly regulated.

Nevertheless, the pre-war architect managed to give the villa a modernist form with the then fashionable rounded corner. Original decorations and...bullet holes remain from its glory days on the facades. Inside, very little remains from the heyday - but the owners have made sure that the new interiors retain the functionalist spirit of the era. It is also a house full of art - on the walls hang paintings of modern painting classics, representatives and representatives of art from Torun, Crimea and even Japan. How did the residents manage to create a space that meets modern needs while remaining connected to the history of the place?
