Czech modernism at its best - a villa in the Černá Pole district of Brno

07 of October '24

The homebuilders once again show a piece of Brno - this time it's an apartment in a building whose architecture replicates the best modernist patterns. Inside - original furniture, flexible room layout and plenty of light. Check out the villa in the Černá Pole district!

Initiated during the New Plan festival in Poznan, the series "Domokrążcy" has what we expect from a good series - engaging stories, colorful characters and beautiful interiors. The project is jointly organized by the SARP Poznań Branch, the Common Point Association, the Open Center and the Made in art Foundation. Each episode introduces viewers and viewers to the stories of unique interiors and their inhabitants.

Modernist bookcase, Marcel Breuer chairs and Barcelona armchair

The villa where Nina Klocová, the heroine of today's film, lives was built in 1935 in the Černá Pole district, which has been part of Brno since 1919. Today it is located almost in the center of the city - right next to the famous Tugendhat Villa, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and a dozen minutes' walk from Liberty Square, where the Alfa Passage stands, among others.

Although the villa managed to be erected and finished in less than six months, it is difficult to find the consequences of such an impressive construction pace. On the contrary, the premises here are finished and decorated with attention to the smallest details. In the center of the apartment of our heroines there is a piece of furniture that acts as a library, a wall, a passageway, a display case and a storage room. This is not the only example of timeless design in this house - in the living room, a set of chairs by Cesc Marcel Breuer stands at a table with chrome legs, while in one of the rooms is the famous Barcelona armchair, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich. What other treasures does the modernist villa in the center of Brno hide?
