Walls are not only a practical solution for dividing space, but also a decorative element that can give an interior a unique character. Increasingly, designers are turning to non-standard forms of partitions - openwork structures, glass walls, bookcases or sliding panels. All these solutions help to subtly delineate zones in the apartment, while keeping the arrangement light. In this article we will look at 5 of the most interesting realizations, in which the partition wall has become not only functional, but also a stylish element of the interior.
Interior divided into three
The project by Keokeo Studio uses a clear division of the interior into three parts. These zones are separated by white walls with ornamental glass.
- The division is the result of existing installation and load-bearing elements. The premises are located in a block of flats from the 1960s, which posed some limitations. A beam and load-bearing columns extend between the entrance-kitchen area and the living room. Meanwhile, in the bathroom, the gas and co installations became the sticking point. I took advantage of what I found, opening up the cramped rooms and adding some new divisions so that the use of the space was comfortable, and the space itself gained a modern character," the project's author, Magda Bajor, described in an interview with A&B.

Interior open and full of light
Monika Gruszka-Ziółkowska of Luumo studio was given the task to design an interior combining Scandinavian inspirations with Mid-Century Modern style. However, the apartment required many changes in the functional layout. The biggest of these was to eliminate the smaller bedroom and incorporate its space into the living area. This gave the already large living room a reading nook with a sizable library. This zone was separated from the kitchen by a glass wall witha black frame, which perfectly matches the patterned floor. Thanks to its light, openwork form, the partition wall does not overwhelm the arrangement, but rather emphasizes its elegant, warm character.

In art déco style
Barbara Godawska 's cooperation with iHomestudio and PRW Design resulted in an interior in shades of burgundy. The apartment in developer condition required extensive changes. It was not without demolition of all partition walls and thorough transformations in the layout of installations.
- Downstairs, a living room with a fully open kitchen was planned, while the investor wanted to visually separate the two zones. Hence the idea of an island with a glass screen," says Barbara Godawska.
The metal and glass wall referring to the art déco style is not only a practical division of space, but also a stylish decoration.

A wall like a honeycomb
In this minimalist apartment designed by the KODO studio, the partition wall is also the biggest decoration. The wooden hexagonal form is reminiscent of a honeycomb. Its warm shade of natural wood blends beautifully with the bright decor, while adding coziness to the space. The openwork design introduces a subtle division, while allowing light to flow freely. Thanks to its lightweight form, the partition wall fits in with the modern character of the interior, which is dominated by an economical color palette, simple lines and functionality. This solution emphasizes the elegant minimalism of the arrangement, while adding clarity to it.

In a boho climate
Magdalena Kwoczka of Finchstudio created an interior inspired by travel. The monochromatic arrangement is based on white and natural materials.
- The choice of accessories was dictated by the style we wanted - the style of vacation homes in Greece, Mexico, Tunisia, where accessible, local materials are used, creating timeless, beautifully aged interiors, the architect explains.
To keep the interior light and bright, many of the divisions were made with glazed white walls. This solution was applied even in the area under the slant.
