Competition for the design of the Center for Sustainable Development EKOFUTURIUM in Koszalin

organizer: Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship with headquarters in Szczecin, SARP Koszalin Branch

The Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship, based in Szczecin, in cooperation with the Koszalin branch of SARP, has announced a competition for the development of a conceptual design for the construction of the Center for Sustainable Development EKOFUTURIUM in Koszalin, together with land development. The chairman of the competition jury is Zbigniew Maćków.

The Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship, based in Szczecin, in cooperation with the Koszalin branch of SARP, has announced a competition for the development of a conceptual design for the construction of the Center for Sustainable Development EKOFUTURIUM in Koszalin, together with land development.

              purpose

The aim of the competition is to obtain the best architectural, spatial and functional-utility concept of the building (complex of buildings) of the Center of Sustainable Development EKOFUTURIUM in Koszalin together with land development. The object is to be built in the vicinity of the buildings of the Koszalin University of Technology (including the under construction Cognitarium designed by OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci studio) and the sports and entertainment hall.

              terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation competition, limited, two-stage.

The multidisciplinary center - unique on a European scale - is to focus on finding and designing solutions for the future, in the universal aspect of the way humans function in the environment. The overarching mission is the contemporary, multi-level idea of sustainability, present in the creation of responsible environmental behavior, innovative material and spatial solutions. Oriented to the challenges and opportunities of man in the face of the future, leads to emphasize such means of expression as hyper-modernity, experimentation, dynamism, openness, dialogue.

Thus, EKOFUTURIUM is to house, among other things, exhibition spaces, conference halls, laboratories, an auditorium, server rooms and a publicly accessible roof garden. The form of the designed building should be read as an ultra-modern dominant, a kind of landmark, welcoming visitors and bidding farewell to Koszalin's guests and completing the panorama of the university's building complex. Due to the role of this project and very interesting spatial solutions, an important competition decision will be the proper setting of relations and compositional links between the Cognitarium cubature and the designed EKOFUTURIUM object.

It is assumed that the facility will function based on the highest standards of ecology, reduction of media consumption, circular economy and based on the principles of biophilic design. The facility should provide healthier conditions of use and implement the principles of reduced environmental impact.

The entire premise is to be complemented by landscaping in the form of a science park, or experience garden, which will be an integral part of the building's exhibition.

                  purpose

The "Best Engineering Diploma of the Year" prize is awarded jointly by the Architecture Students Scientific Association of the Technical University of Łódź "IX Piętro" and the Łódź branch of the Association of Polish Architects for the best engineering diploma project to graduates of the following courses: architecture (including interior design), spatial management or spatial planning, realized at universities located in Łódź.

                  terms and conditions

The competition is a one-stage competition, addressed to those who have received an engineering degree from a university located in Lodz.

Submitted works must have been defended within the last two calendar years in the field of architecture (including interior architecture) and urban planning or spatial planning. Works can be submitted only once.

The subject of the submitted work should be a design task developed by a single graduate student. Submission of works made by a team of authors of diplomas is allowed conditionally in justified cases.

Submission of the work to the competition is made by sending a summary of the work, the opinion of the promoter or reviewer and a scan of the participation card signed by the author of the submitted work.

The work submitted to the competition consists of a summary of the thesis, including the author's presentation of the thesis, containing selected material covering the most important aspects of the thesis, developed on up to two boards (each 100 × 70 cm) in a horizontal layout, and an abbreviated description on up to two A4 pages - contained in files of no more than 25 MB each.

The boards in the field of architecture should include the design of land development, projections of the most significant floors and elevations or views of the developed object in a scale and technique that allows reading the idea of the project. All works should also show the broader
                  context of the design intervention.

Eligible to submit and submit theses for the competition are:

                  • promoters,
                  • reviewers,
                  • diploma committee or other collegial bodies established at the university, participating in the process of evaluating diploma theses, resulting in the awarding of the diploma of architectural engineering,
                  • diploma students.

                  awards

The main criterion for evaluating diploma theses submitted for the Award is the outstanding architectural and urban design values of the project and their significance in the process of spatial shaping of the human living environment. The works submitted to the competition will be evaluated in terms of the following criteria:

                  • value of spatial, functional and utilitarian solutions,
                  • ideological value,
                  • impact on shaping the environment,
                  • innovativeness and technical level of the presented solutions,
                  • artistic values of the work.

Solutions to environmental and energy issues of the designed object will also be taken into account, as well as the use of the latest tools supporting the designer's work (for example, BIM). The recalled aspects of the evaluation of works are not equal elements, valuing works in an equal way. Due to their thematic diversity and often their
incomparability, the Competition Jury will evaluate each work individually, pointing to those elements that, in the opinion of the Jury, are decisive in the overall evaluation.

The following prizes will be awarded:

                  • two first prizes: however, one in the category of architecture and interior design, and the other in the category of urban planning and spatial planning - PLN 1,700 gross each

The municipality of Debica, in cooperation with the Rzeszow branch of the Association of Polish Architects, has announced an architectural and urban planning competition for the concept of rebuilding Debica's market square. What will this urban space look like after reconstruction?

                  purpose

The goal of the competition is to obtain a high-quality, representative public space in which the Market Square could fulfill its traditional role as a place for meetings, strolls and integration of residents, as well as social and ceremonial events, and also to expose the existing centripetal qualities of the market, currently dominated by the road system.

                  terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation competition, limited, one-stage.

The proposed functional solutions should take into account the maximum use of the market space throughout the year so that concerts, festive events, important celebrations and meetings related to sports events can be held there.

The organizers of the competition expect the central part of the market to be exposed with a motif referring to the history of the city, the existing tree stand to be preserved to the maximum extent and green areas to be enlarged. Among other things, new city toilets, one fountain and consistent elements of small architecture should be designed.

The conceptual solution must include solutions that take into account the needs for sustainability and resilience to climate change and present a method of rainwater retention. The entire project should be designed in accordance with the principles of blue-green infrastructure. Propose solutions to permanently or seasonally reduce sunny areas to reduce heat islands.

Wroclaw University of Technology, in cooperation with the Wroclaw branch of the Association of Polish Architects, has announced an implementation competition to develop an architectural concept for the Health Tech Synergy Hub building in Wroclaw.

                              purpose

The purpose of the competition is to obtain the best architectural, spatial, functional-utilitarian, technical and environmentally responsible building concept for the Health Tech Synergy Hub (HTSH) Medical Technology Center building of Wrocław University of Technology, together with land development.

                              terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation competition, limited, two-stage.

In Stage I, participants submit studies, and in Stage II they submit competition entries.

TheHealthTech Synergy Hub (HTSH) is a newly established center at the Wrocław University of Technology, which coordinates scientific and educational activities in scientific fields conducted at the university, promoting cooperation between scientific units, business and other institutions in the field of medical technology development. Thus, the planned facility is to have both a research character - intended mainly for the realization of the mission and goals of HTSH, bringing together all units of the Wrocław University of Technology working in the sphere of medical technology, and an educational character - intended for the activities of the Medical Faculty of the Wrocław University of Technology.

The development is planned on a plot of land between Smoluchowskiego and Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego streets in Wrocław, adjacent to the historic B1 and B2 buildings of the Wroclaw University of Technology.

The new development, as we read in the regulations, should be shaped in a contemporary way, respecting the demanding neighborhood - the values and forms of the existing buildings and greenery, which are part of one of the most valuable urban complexes in Wroclaw. Particular attention should be paid to the shaping of the elevations on the side of the corner square and the Oder River boulevard - Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego Street, along which the entrances to the representative edifices of Wrocław University of Technology - the main building A-1 and building C-13 - are located.

The upper part of the development on the side of Smoluchowskiego Street is recommended to be shaped taking into account the proximity of residential buildings and the legal requirements for sunlight and shading conditions. The way of shaping the development on the side of the western, internal service road between buildings B1 and HTSH should take into account the need for visual screening of sensitive functions.

The roof storey of the building should be treated as the so-called fifth elevation. It is recommended to build technical installations into the volume or shape the forms of visual and acoustic shielding in a manner consistent with the expression of the building.

The building is planned to house specialized research laboratories in areas such as biochemistry, biophotonics, biomechanics, highly specialized medical laboratories, as well as a biobank. A modern Department of Normal and Pathological Anatomy (Collegium Anatomicum), a clinical research support center, as well as a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging center are planned for the building.

The Employer's expectation is to ensure the scientific openness and accessibility for students of the various functions in the facility, from the level of general communication, but excluding selected specialized units for which, for safety, technological or sanitary reasons, this is not possible. Part of the wall surfaces of seminar rooms and selected laboratories, as far as possible for technological and sanitary reasons, are recommended to be glazed from the side of general communication.

Competition proposals must take into account, among other things, the sustainability and life cycle criteria ofthe materials and construction technologies used. Optimal solutions for rainwater retention, the formation of a favorable internal microclimate of the building and high quality landscaping should be adopted.

A home is a space of personal and emotional significance that evolves with us. Today's homes no longer serve only as shelter, but are becoming multifunctional spaces, adapting to our various needs - from work and recreation to the comfort of everyday life. Today's homes must therefore be more flexible and adaptable to changing lifestyles.

ThePolish Lighting Industry Association, in cooperation with the studios Goczołowie Architekci Studio Autorskie and OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci, as well as the SOMA agency, organizer of the ŚWIATŁO International Fair in Warsaw, has announced a design competition - "Lighting fixture for busbar".

                                                        purpose

The purpose of the competition is to design a lighting fixture for a 230VAC three-circuit busbar. Busbars are technical elements accompanying lighting that allow for dynamic changes: the position of the luminaire can be changed, and light sources can be added or subtracted depending on the needs and situation.

The jury expects unconventional design solutions for luminaires or entire lighting systems, which will become a complement to the architecture of interiors of different character and purpose. The designer should take into account not only the visual effect, impression and lighting function, but also the safety of use related to the distribution of light flux and electrical power. The design requires a general explanation of the principle of construction and operation.

                                                        terms and conditions

The competition is an open, international and one-stage competition. It is directed to people associated with architecture, art, design, and all fields of art. The competition is open to both individuals and teams. Competition entries must be own works, not previously published anywhere, not the subject of any other competition, and unencumbered by legal defects or claims of third parties.
The competition task is to design a luminaire for a busbar (TEAR family of busbars from the KANLUX range). The focus should be on the design of the luminaire itself for power supply using an existing TEAR-type adapter (for 230VAC mains power supply) or publicly available DC power supplies built into the rail adapter (in-track driver for integrated LED luminaires).
The luminaire can have a replaceable or non-replaceable light source. It can be decorative or designed for specialized purposes. The competition proposal should take into account the type of room and determine the function of the lighting, and then design a luminaire that fits formally and functionally into the chosen spatial and functional situation.
The project should go beyond the limits of typical thinking about the construction and design of lighting fixtures and the possibilities of illuminating surfaces, spaces and objects in different types of interiors.
A very important aspect of the design is the actual feasibility of the design, so that it offers the possibility of producing a prototype series. The preferred material is sheet metal.
