Miedzyzdroje has for years attracted tourists wishing to relax by the Polish sea. In the heart of the town, at 16 Książąt Pomorskich Street, there is a guesthouse "Willa Park" dating back to 1900, which currently houses 20 rooms and a restaurant on the first floor . Martyna Budnik from the Academy of Art in Szczecin as part of her diploma thesis, under the direction of M.Sc. arch. Anna Paszkowska-Thurow, decided to adapt the villa's first floor for a wellness area and remodel the existing suites, in keeping with the spirit of ecology and contemporary trends in hospitality.

An ecological approach in the revitalization of a historic guesthouse
The main goal of the project was to create a place that is conducive to the bather and the bather. The inspiration came from a vision of the coastline of yesteryear, where the Polish sea bore the name of a health resort and incoming tourists wanted rest and natural treatment, and less banal attractions. While working on the project, the designer focused on combining the building's history with modern standards and tourist requirements. Although Villa Park has lost most of its original architectural features, it is still an attractive space in the city. A key element of the concept was the introduction of solutions in line with the idea of sustainable development - ecological minimalism. This minimalism is expressed in simplicity of forms, reduction of unnecessary elements and attention to detail, all with respect for the environment.

The author has adopted an approach in which the design not only meets the aesthetic requirements of modern guests and visitors, but also conforms to the growing environmental awareness. The new guesthouse's interiors use natural materials, such as wood, which not only supports proper acoustics, but also gives the spaces warmth and elegance. In addition, an LED lighting system, concealed in metal fixtures, discreetly brings users into the interiors, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Adaptation of attic space for modern day bather and bather
One of the key objectives of the project was to adapt the attic space, which originally housed four apartments, into a modern wellness area. In response to growing tourist expectations and trends in the tourism market, the designer created a comprehensive functional layout that fully meets modern needs. The new wellness zone includes a fitness room, a massage room suitable for specialized treatments, areas for bathing rituals, a sauna and a tranquility room.

The designed interiors focus on regeneration of both body and spirit. As Martyna Budnik emphasizes, mental regeneration is not just a result of fashion, but a necessity, especially in the context of today's often stressful lifestyle. The creation of a wellness space in a historic guesthouse aims not only to raise the standard of the facility, but also to provide guests and visitors with a place where they can find solace and relaxation.

harmony for the senses
The re-arrangement of the existing suites was another major focus of the project. The previous division of space did not allow for optimal use of the available space. The new functional layout involves the creation of four suites with varying areas - from 9.3 m² to 24 m² - which allows flexibility in adapting the offer for various groups of guests, from couples to families with children. Reducing the area of the passageways to 9.3 m² gave the opportunity to maximize the use of available space, while maintaining functionality.

All interiors were designed in the spirit of minimalism, focused on combining simplicity with high quality of materials used. Furniture and accessories correspond to modern hotel standards, characterized by durability and resistance to damage.Particular attention was paid to details - the furnishings were designed for longevity, while their form is so universal that it does not lose its relevance over the years.
reinterpretation of the old vision of leisure
The inspiration for the new function of the guesthouse was the vision of the Polish coast as a spa destination, known from the old days. The author wanted to refer to the times when tourists came to the seaside not only for the attractions, but above all for the natural cure and regeneration of their strength. The wellness area, combined with modern suites, refers to this tradition, while at the same time introducing solutions that meet modern leisure standards.

Thanks to the thoughtful adaptation of the interiors, the Willa Park guesthouse has gained a new function, attracting male and female tourists looking for original places to relax. It is worth noting that the Polish sea has been one of the most popular holiday destinations for Poles for years. In addition to raising the standard of the guesthouse, the project also aims to influence the improvement of the surroundings - the revitalization of historic buildings often becomes an inspiration for other investors and residents of the area.
comprehensive offer
Modern hotels are no longer limited to offering accommodation - they increasingly need to fulfill a number of other functions, such as spaces for work, daytime leisure or recreation. The revitalization of Villa Park is a response to these changing needs of its users. The new functional layout of the guesthouse has been designed to meet the needs of both those seeking relaxation and those who want to combine leisure with physical activity.
