The work of Maciej Czekański of the Sopot Academy of Applied Sciences concerns the revitalization of Księży Młyn, a post-industrial district of Lodz. The aim of the project is to restore the former splendor of this historic space, while introducing modern functions and ecological solutions. The project is a response to the challenges associated with the degradation of this part of the city and the need to create an attractive, functional space that will attract residents/residents and tourists/tourists, as well as become a place for new investments.

Księży Młyn
Księży Młyn is one of the oldest districts of Łódź, which for many years was an industrial center. Today, despite its proximity to such attractions as the Grohman Palace, the Lofts and the Scheibler Residence, the place remains in the shadows. Destroyed factory buildings, such as the ruins of Karol Scheibler's carpentry shop, block the neighborhood's development. Księży Młyn is becoming a drive-through space, and the lack of adequate connections to neighboring neighborhoods limits its potential. The revitalization project not only aims to preserve the historic character of the site, but also to create modern spaces that will revitalize the district and attract new users.

The project includes the adaptation of three buildings of Scheibler's former carpentry shop. The first, will be adapted into a restaurant, occupying two floors. The second building will be a cafe on two levels. The third building will serve as a shopping mall and a yoga studio, with an additional third floor. The project will retain the original building forms, such as brick facades and gabled roofs, but will be enhanced with modern materials - steel, glass and wood. This combination of traditional architecture and modern solutions will create a unique character for the space.

ecological solutions
The revitalization project also includes the use of modern, environmentally friendly technologies that will contribute to the sustainable development of Księży Młyn. Among these solutions is the use of used pallets, which will be recycled into furniture, bookcases or tables. In this way, the project not only promotes recycling, but also brings elements from industrial history in a modern functional form.

Another innovative solution is the modernization of factory chimneys, which will act as carbon sinks. As part of the project, it is planned to use algae as natural CO₂ absorbers. Algae, needing light, heat and carbon dioxide, will be placed in special chimneys to absorb harmful gases. This type of solution will help improve air quality in the district and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

An important element of the project is also the use of solar roofs, which will allow the production of electricity. Integrated with photovoltaic cells, the roofs will perform the functions of a traditional roof, but will additionally generate energy to power equipment installed in the facilities. This type of solution is not only environmentally friendly, but also provides savings in the operation of buildings.

development of outdoor areas
Revitalization of Księży Młyn is not limited only to the buildings. The project also assumes the development of outdoor areas. It is planned to create new paths, made of cobblestones in various shades, which will lead to the buildings. In addition, the outdoor space will serve a recreational and educational function - space is planned for sculptures, display items related to the history of the carpenter's shop and information plaques. The project also includes the construction of a parking lot for cars and bicycles, which will increase the accessibility of the facilities.

The Księży Młyn revitalization project is an example of successfully combining modern architectural and ecological solutions with preservation of the historic character of the space. The adaptation of post-industrial buildings for modern commercial, gastronomic and cultural functions will give new life to Księży Młyn, making it an important point on the map of Łódź and an inspiration for other cities in terms of sustainable development and protection of industrial heritage.
