A Michał Zdunek from the Faculty of Architecture at Poznan University of Technology has created a project that combines two seemingly distant worlds - the education of the youngest and the care of the elderly. This approach aims to meet the needs of both groups, giving them a chance to interact, integrate and act together. Such a solution responds to today's challenges of lengthening life spans and growing social needs for senior/senior support and adequate child care.

Integration of generations - the key to a modern community
The goal of Michal Zdunek's project was to create a space where children and senior citizens would not only meet, but also spend time together. The building combines preschool and senior functions, offering an adapted space to meet the needs of both groups. The project aims to overcome barriers between generations, with each group needing different forms of support. Integrating children and seniors in one facility allows them to interact with each other and build intergenerational ties, which has a positive impact on the health and well-being of both groups.

architecture as a tool for common action
The project is a response to the growing problem of isolation of the elderly in society. It has been planned in such a way that the two segments of the building - the kindergarten and the senior center - are closely connected, but at the same time have separate functional zones. The kindergarten, equipped with four kindergarten rooms, a playroom and social and medical facilities, is designed with the comfort of the youngest in mind, while the senior zone offers, among other things, a rehabilitation room, a doctor's office, a spacious dining room and technical facilities. Thanks to this organization of the space, both groups have their own place, but also space for joint activities and integration.

simple elegance and modern technologies
The design of the building involves the use of modern technologies and ecological solutions, such as photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and ground exchangers. Finishing materials, such as a panel system made of thermosin and glass panes, not only provide a modern look to the building, but also increase the energy efficiency of the entire structure. The use of CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) technology for the exterior walls guarantees high fire resistance and durability of the building. Michal Zdunk's project is an example of modern, sustainable architecture that responds to the needs of different generations.

safety, functionality and aesthetics
An important aspect of the design is also the safety of the building's users/users. The zones are planned so that both children and seniors feel comfortable and safe. Proper labeling of spaces in the building, the so-called wayfinding system, allows easy movement around the facility, especially for the elderly and children. The building also uses appropriate acoustic solutions to minimize noise, which is particularly important in educational and care facilities.

greenery as an element of therapy
Michal Zdunek's design also takes into account the building's outdoor space. The area around the building has been planned as a space full of greenery, which is intended not only for aesthetics, but also to improve the well-being of residents/residents. Gardens, squares and gravel paths introduce elements of nature that have a therapeutic effect. Diverse vegetation, selected for safety and health, introduces elements of tranquility and contemplation into the space, creating ideal conditions for rest and relaxation.

Community and integration in one building
Michal Zdunek presented a building that is a bridge between generations, allowing children and seniors/teenagers to interact on a daily basis in a natural and unhindered way. The kindergarten and day care center for the elderly, although physically separated, create a space conducive to mutual integration and learning. Children learn empathy, and seniors/seniors gain the company of younger ones, which influences their physical and mental activity.
