"10 Questions to an Interior Designer" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...".This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Rita Jankowska and Krzysztof Szydlik of Szydlik Wnętrza studio talk about their approach to design..
Rita Jankowska and Krzysztof Szydlik - architects who run the Szydlik Wnętrza studio. They are involved in creating private and commercial spaces. In their projects, function and ergonomics always go hand in hand with aesthetics.
1 For us, home is...
In terms of our private space, we can compare a house to a casket. No matter what it looks like, inside it hides what is most precious to us. Its interior we show only to those we trust.
2 The key to successful interior design is....
Harmony. In all aspects. Starting with the contact with the client, through the investor's expectations and our visions, and ending with colors, patterns and textures. In the recipe for a successful interior, harmony is the base, which we supplement with additions, giving our architectural dish that one, unique taste.
3 We look for inspiration....
Our creativity is stimulated by puzzles. Things that are not obvious at first glance. For example, the films of Wes Anderson. They are full of color and twists and allow a lot of freedom of interpretation. Our clients are also such an inspiring puzzle. In the process of getting to know each other, we are detectives, looking for solutions based on clues.
4 In cooperation with an investor, the most important thing is....
Empathy and communication built on its basis.
5.Our favorite design style is....
Privately, as much as possible, we have our preferences. I am a fan of eclecticism, especially combining elements of art déco with modernist and space age. Krzysztof, on the other hand, likes interiors designed in the spirit of broadly defined modernism.
The question of style looks different if we are talking about Szydlik Wnętrza studio. In this regard, barriers for us do not exist. It can be Adam style, brutalism or Pompeian style. Most often, however, the style or combination of styles in our projects is the result of studying the client's needs, filtering their inspiration and guidance.
6 The most valuable object in our home is....
It all depends on the time of day, mood and current need. Each item has a function and becomes a priority at the right time.
7. the most common mistake in self-decoration is...
Transferring old habits, underestimating one's own needs and mistakes due to lack of technical knowledge.
8. our favorite material is...
Fabrics, metal and wood in many guises.
9. A trend we wish would pass away already is....
Calling tile and terracotta tiles.
10.We would like to live in a... someday.
A house with an orchard.
