When undertaking a project, we are always guided by the needs of the investor. At the same time, we look for the context, which often becomes the basis of the architectural concept. All the more so when the context is as clear as in the case of the described project.

The plot is located a dozen kilometers south of Krakow, on the so-called Mogilan Mountain ridge. It has a southern exposure of the slope, with an extensive panoramic view of the Carpathian and Beskid Mountains. Its interesting geographical location and rich scenic qualities make it a unique place. In such a spatial and cultural context, we sought design inspiration. We decided to reinterpret the Zakopane style, already forgotten in residential architecture, associated with the nearby areas of Podhale.

In the building we designed, the characteristic feature is a steep roof, with eaves projecting well beyond the outline of the walls. This created a distinct, recognizable triangular attic block. The house is based on a pedestal, which together with the eaves of the roof and openwork balustrades creates something like a veranda (landing). Wood completes the concept. Cedar shingles cover the roof and gable walls, planks cover the plinth. This natural material changes over time, living together with the seasons and the weather.

In the Zakopane style there are many details and ornaments that we deliberately did not use. We have reduced the means of expression in order to design a contemporary house, responding to the needs of the investor, and at the same time fitting into the cultural landscape of the region.
