Measurements

Let's get to work! It's usually easier to find a faucet that matches the existing or designed space than it is to customize the kitchen for the faucet. As with all home renovation projects, choosing a new faucet requires some conscious decisions about its location, a general idea of what range of activities it will be used for, and what we want the sink area to look like after our project is complete.

  • This means that we should take measurements of our sink, especially in comparison to the size of the plates, pots and pans we plan to wash in it. Any faucet, will need to have a high enough spout to wash all sizes of our dishes, but also not excessively high to avoid excessive splashing.
  • It is also a good idea to measure the countertop behind the sink, the diameter of the drilled holes (if any) and the distance between their centers. The dimensions of the hole allow you to determine what size the faucet will fit before you buy it.
  • Next, measure the distance between the wall and the edge of the sink. This is important for both installation and regular use of the faucet, as you need to make sure there is room between the wall and the faucet to fully reposition the faucet handles or levers.

Location of the faucet

Countertop faucet

Is the most commonly used solution. When choosing this type of faucet, remember that it is necessary to drill holes in the countertop. The number of holes varies from one to four

Wall-mounted faucet

It will work well not only in smaller kitchens. For its installation we do not need countertop space, so we can save a lot of working space. It also allows o various options for the location of the sink.

Faucet types by function

  • 360° swivel spout- allows you to precisely direct the water stream in any direction, which is convenient especially for a sink with two bowls or on a kitchen island.
  • Pull-out spout - increases the reach of the water stream. Such a solution allows water to reach where an ordinary faucet would not manage. Often they have a built-in spray/stream switch: a spray stream for washing fine, delicate ingredients or a strong one for filling containers with water.
  • Electronic faucets - A growing trend in today's homes is the addition of smart technology, computerized mechanics that help make daily chores a little easier. The faucet can now be turned on and off with the swipe of a hand, thanks to motion sensors installed in the body of the faucet. Electronic functions are safe and convenient, but may require professional installation.
  • Faucetswith two valves - They have two valves instead of one - one with hot and one with cold water. Such faucets are great for kitchens decorated in a rustic style.
  • Water filtering - Some kitchen faucets are available with built-in filtration options that can purify water to make it drinkable, directly from the tap.

Types of faucets by material

  • Chrome has been one of the most popular finishes for years because of its versatility. It is durable, universally accessible and easily matches other fixtures.
  • The brushed nickel finish is very durable, lasting longer, maintaining a great look and resisting wear and tear.
  • Thecopper finish provides a bold and exclusive look to the space. Due to its characteristics, the longer it sits, the better it looks.
  • Stainless steel is an iconic material that you can't forget about. If you're looking for a balance between durability and style, this will be the right choice.

Above all, choose a faucet that suits your interior and your taste!
While some finishes are more durable than others, in general, most finishes will do just fine during daily use. So focus on functionality as well as style and find something that fits your space and that you simply like best.
