Designing for your own family is a special challenge. Karolina Janczy of Janczy Studio was given just such a task.

Exceptional cooperation
In the work of a designer, it is extremely important to establish relationships and build a bond with clients. Only through this architect can discover the true, often even unconscious needs of clients, and understand their daily rhythm, tastes and habits, which have a significant impact on the use of home space. In this case, Karolina Janczy had this stage long behind her, as this time she had to create the interiors of an apartment for her brother and his wife. However, this did not mean that the project was easier — quite the opposite.

Flexible solutions
The interior required big changes. The apartment was divided into small impractical rooms. The architect transformed it into an open, multifunctional space. Specially designed furniture can easily be adapted to the dynamic needs of the residents. The table top slides out from the kitchen island, while the sofa can also serve as a sleeping space.

- Piotr and Magda wanted a functional space with a touch of distinctiveness, definite details and design accents in darker, unusual colors. Particularly important to them was the living space, where they spend time with family and friends. It was supposed to be flexible, allowing adaptation for different types of gatherings. The style of this project escapes clear categorization, being their own interpretation of an ideal space. However, if I were to define it from the point of view of a professional, I would call it eclectic, combining modern functions with details referring to classic solutions — comments Karolina Janczy.

Important details
The two-level apartment, has been divided into a private area and a living zone. The kitchenette is equipped with modern household appliances. Noteworthy is the minimalist lamp suspended over the kitchen island.

The master zone, on the other hand, consists of a bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom. The character of the arrangement is added by unique details. The designer personally painted an abstract graphic on one of the walls. In addition, the ceiling in the hallway was decorated with a wallpaper based on her painting. The bedroom also features one of her works.
- Details and small decorations are of great importance here, they are well thought out and made with a certain detachment, which adds lightness to the interior. For example, fabrics in the recesses in the dressing room, wallpaper in unobvious places, or towel holders in the form of people climbing up the wall. Such a mix of expensive elements with more ordinary furniture creates an individualized, in my opinion, bold space, ideal for the first apartment together for a young couple — adds Karolina Janczy.

Colorful division of the dressing room
The investors needed a lot of storage space. So the architect created an impressive closet for them. The room is divided into three parts — for her, for him and common space. The boundaries of each zone are marked by colors.

- This is actually one of my favorite rooms. We didn't want to put obvious boundaries in the form of cabinets or walls. This rather clear division is visible in colors and details. This place, although actually intended only for loved ones, has that „something”, style and character of its inhabitants — describes the designer.

Modernity in the service of comfort
The architect also decided to implement modern technologies. The Smart Home system used in the apartment allows remote control of various elements of the equipment, thereby increasing the comfort and safety of the household members. Lighting matched to the smart system allows you to regulate the intensity of light and change the mood in individual rooms, making it possible to create the right atmosphere for any occasion.
- Modern technology is not only a convenience, but also a way to express yourself. With a smart home system and smart lighting, residents can customize their surroundings according to mood and occasion, creating a space that is not only functional, but also unique — adds the designer.
