Elżbieta Janiszewska for her master's thesis entitled. "Industrial Garden of Impressions as an element of the urban system of greenery and public spaces Green Line" received the Prize of the Minister of Development. The thesis was carried out at the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Technical University of Lodz under the direction of Dr. Aneta Tomczak.
The subject of the awarded master's thesis is an urban design for the development of the area of the defunct Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 2 in Lodz, which is part of a coherent urban system of greenery and public spaces. An important premise of the work is the operation of different design scales, and each of the elements proposed by the author is part of the overall premise. In this way, Elzbieta Janiszewska shows the possibility of creating related common spaces at the scale of the city, quarter, park and street. The concept assumes the creation of a park - "Industrial Garden of Impressions", combining recreational, sports, cultural and entertainment functions.

healing the city
The design part was preceded by research, in which the author focused on the specifics and problems of the post-industrial city and the role of green areas. The result of the performed analyses is a thesis, combining these two topics - introducing green areas into post-industrial places is a way to heal them and reintegrate them into the urban system, in the spirit of sustainable development.

green line
The designed structure extends over a large section of Lodz, connecting two major railroad stations. The concept's leitmotif became the disused railroad and streetcar tracks, with a length of almost seven kilometers. "Green Line" is a project linking attractive urban spaces - both existing and planned, largely covering post-industrial and wasteland areas. The linear system is an idea to open up inaccessible areas and introduce green public spaces, in the form of footpaths, bicycle paths, squares, parks and plazas, which will help decongest overly large post-industrial quarters.

industrial garden of impressions
On the site of the thermal power plant No. 2, Elżbieta Janiszewska proposed an innovative recreational space with various entertainment functions. An analysis of the area carried out by the Lodz University of Technology graduate showed that the closed post-factory area stopped the development of the entire city quarter, while creating a sizable spatial barrier for its residents. For this reason, the author created a public park on the site of the thermal power plant, making maximum use of the preserved objects and elements of technical infrastructure. By preserving raw, industrial forms submerged in greenery, combined with a diverse functional offer, a new public space in Lodz, respecting the history of the place, was created.
