We got to know today the results of an open, implementation, one-stage and SARP-recommended competition for the development of an architectural and urban design concept for the Cognitarium Knowledge Center on Śniadeckich Street in Koszalin. Participants in the competition were expected to create a modern architectural form that would have a chance to become a showpiece of both the university - Koszalin University of Technology- and the city itself, and at the same time be a functional and energy-efficient building with low operating costs.
The competition jury composed of: Jerzy Szczepanik-Dzikowski (Chairman, SARP Warsaw), Jacek Lenart (Deputy Chairman, SARP Szczecin), Marek Perepeczo (SARP Koszalin), Karol Fiedor (SARP Poznań), Ryszard Grzybowski (Koszalin University of Technology), Mariola Jackiewicz (Koszalin University of Technology), Bartosz Warzecha (SARP Koszalin) awarded three prizes and three equivalent distinctions.
awards
The1st prize and an invitation to implement the project went to OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci studio. The jury appreciated the legible, clear and expressive formula covering the issues of the competition task in the fullest possible way. The awarded project combines urban, architectural and symbolic qualities with functional flexibility and demonstrates the expected multithreaded solutions within each of the modules that make up the structure of the building. As a whole, as we read in the decision of the Competition Jury, it carries an emotional charge inherent in the iconic form.

The project poses questions without always answering them; it forces you to search for them and promises solutions. This is not an empty, undefined area of search - it is a consciously adopted formula of turning to real problems, rather than solutions created without awareness of these problems. This approach, after analyses by the Competition Jury, promises solutions of the required quality, but within the outlined and clear framework. The project fascinates with its architectural form, mood and multi-layered narrative. It promises a building that can be explored, discovered in many layers of meaning. A building that tells the story of Architecture in all its complexity. There is a thoughtful presentation of proposals for those elements of the project that, as the authors understand, constitute its quality - the way the facades are built and their variable translucency or the green roofs serving functions located at their level. The whole proposal of green roof s creates a collective, picturesque world, parallel to the rich and consciously mixed functions and types of internal spaces of the building," the jury's justification reads.
The2nd place went to the Heinle, Wischer und Partner Architekci studio. The Wroclaw design studio's postposition was awarded for:
rigorously defined, clean, minimalistically clear form, which becomes a formal sign of onośność proper object organizing and dominating the campus space. A well, crystalline and consistently resolved function that, together with the transparent structure of the building, unambiguously defines its form. Material and technological solutions that highlight the design decisions made.

The3rd place went to the team from INTERURBAN Archite cts andThezaarchitects. The project won recognition of the Competition Jury for:
Creating with the object a significant formal sign corresponding to the chosen method of inscribing the building into the existing context of the Koszalin University of Technology campus. Simple, elegant and legible form, reflecting the essence of the functional divisions with material and technological solutions that provided a perceptibly high quality of the object's finish. A clear open structure of the object allowing correct functional solutions with great potential for flexibilization.
