Container construction has its advantages - simple structures of used shipping containers allow for quick construction and mobility, while giving a second life to existing modules. Adam Wiercinski reached for such a solution, using containers in the Kontenerart project - a public space in Poznan.

The temporary space for recreation and culture Kontenerart is located in the center of Poznań, between the area of the historic Old Gasworks and the bicycle path running along the Warta River. A pedestrian and bicycle bridge is to be built at this location in the future, connecting the area in the old riverbed with the Polytechnic University campus. Due to the temporary nature of the initiative, its main idea was to use used shipping containers and recyclable materials that allow for quick construction and demolition.

containers in architecture
On a 1,800 sq. m. sandy area, wooden boxes with seating and shading fabrics were set up to house the premise and twenty-three containers that house a meeting room, gallery, music and workshop studio, office, warehouses, toilets and food outlets.

Between the rectangular container modules there is a stage designed for concerts and artistic events. A wooden terrace was designed on part of the roofs, allowing to admire views of the river, the cathedral and the eastern part of the city, and the stairs leading to the platform also serve as a grandstand for the audience during performances taking place. The whole project was planned to create a safe space separated from the bike path.

black and white
Apart from being a fashionable and ecological building solution, the containerart designed by Adam Wier cinski of wiercinski-studio is also consistent in terms of color and graphics - the containers have been painted white, thanks to which the varied forms of development create a bright, fresh object in the city. What's more, as the project's author emphasizes, the bright color has a positive effect on reducing overheating inside the metal blocks.
The main entrance to the site is accentuated through a gate highlighted by black shapes, which form a cropped KONTE inscription.

In the temporary space of the Kontenerart, the main elements, i.e. containers, are not permanently attached to the ground. Other parts - terrace modules, paths and balustrades - have been designed in universal dimensions so that they can be reused in another layout or location.
