The facility, designed by Mateusz Furczon from the Academy of Applied Sciences in New Targ, aims to meet the needs of both the students, serving as a school, and the entire Gliczarów community, as a socio-cultural center. Gliczarów Dolny, located in the heart of the Podtatrze region, is characterized by dynamic socio-cultural activities undertaken by the highland community. However, it lacks a place that can accommodate a variety of artistic, sports, educational and social activities.

space for the community
To meet the demand of the local community, Mateusz Furczoń designed a spacious, multifunctional space, acting as a "market under the roof." In the mornings, the space will be used by male and female students, while in the afternoons, evenings, holidays and weekends, the main part of the facility - the aforementioned "market under the roof" - will serve all residents of Gliczarow and tourists. Combining the functions of a school and a socio-cultural center also makes economic sense, especially in the context of financing the construction and maintenance of the facility.

mountain meetings
The plot of land intended for the proposed facility is located on a slope, which is characteristic of rural conditions in the mountains. The segments of the development, housing two classrooms each, toilets, auxiliary rooms and a corridor connecting the segments to the "market," were laid out in terraces on successive levels of the slope. Between the terraces with classrooms, gardens and forest nurseries were designed, which will be accessible directly from the classrooms.

The aforementioned "market" serves as the main function, connecting the individual terrace floors and the entrance area. Formed on a slope in the form of a wide staircase, it is divided into smaller groups of several steps formed in bends of ramps with rests, leading from the bottom of the slope to the highest terraces. The staircase also serves as an auditorium from which the space on the lowest terrace of the "market" can be observed, intended for sports activities and artistic performances.

It is worth noting that the "market" is not a heated space - only segments with classrooms, library, administration, etc. are heated. In winter, it is planned to turn on "infrared" heating only at the necessary time and place.

materials and construction technology
The basic construction material of the building is wood in CLT technology. The material and construction solutions were inspired primarily by the realizations of the LOCAL ARCHITECTURE group, including the chapel in St-Loup near Basel. The structure of the pavilion classroom segments is formed by a system of shields - CLT panels with insulation and all protective measures.

Similarly manufactured panels, but without insulation, were used in the construction of the roofing over the "market". The load-bearing system consists of glulam frames, pinned in place from smaller sections. They form a sharply outlined roof, symbolizing the connection of the building's architecture with that of the Podhale region. The combination of traditional wood, typical of the region, with new technologies and hitherto unachievable technical possibilities creates the building's unique character.

innovation and regionality
Thanks to its innovative approach, focus on multifunctionality and adaptation to modern needs, the site becomes an attractive destination not only for the local community. Its regional character, harmonizing with modernity, can also attract people from outside Podhale.

The design of the School, Education and Social and Cultural Center in Gliczarow Dolny is intended not only to be an expression of contemporary architecture, but above all to be a response to the growing needs of the local community.
