diabetes - a challenge of the 21st century
Diabetes affects nearly 3 million Poles, about half a million of whom are unaware of their disease. Projections indicate that the number of cases will increase, which requires new solutions, both in terms of education and support for those struggling with the disease. Diabetics on a daily basis need care from specialists, places to share experiences, training in the use of modern medical devices, and spaces for integration and relaxation.

Agnieszka Myk's project responds to these needs by presenting a comprehensive solution that takes into account not only medical requirements, but also the emotional and social needs of diabetics.
complex design process
Work on the project was preceded by detailed research. Surveys conducted among diabetics, consultations with diabetes organizations and the author's personal experience as a diabetic provided a solid foundation for the concept. The choice of a plot of land on the outskirts of Bydgoszcz, well connected to the city center and surrounding towns, and consideration of the existing terrain and greenery added authenticity to the project.

symbolism
The building's design is based on a shape similar to a circle - a reference to the symbol of diabetes (a blue circle). This layout not only facilitates integration, but also encourages people to spend time together. The building has been equipped with facades made of decorative fins, which add dynamism to the mass, while providing adequate light conditions in the interiors. The building's vegetation-covered roof emphasizes the author's ecological approach to design.

The eastern part of the plot is occupied by the center's building, connected by a link to a parking lot inscribed in the landform. In front of the building, a spacious plaza has been planned, which can serve as a venue for thematic events, while the surrounding green zones encourage relaxation. The western part of the plot has a recreational and park function with numerous paths, a playground and an outdoor gym.

functionality of the facility
On the first floor of the building, an entrance area with an information desk, a checkroom, a cafeteria and a store is planned. The medical section includes offices of specialists - a diabetologist, nutritionist, psychologist, nurse, diabetes educator - as well as a laboratory and medical facilities. The first floor is dedicated to educational and recreational activities, with training rooms, a gym, a small exercise room and administrative spaces for diabetes foundations.

social dimension of the project
Agnieszka Myk's project is not just an architectural vision - it is a manifesto of sensitivity to social needs. The building is intended to draw attention to the problem of diabetes, as well as provide a place for support, education and integration of diabetics. By fitting the building into the existing landscape, the project not only harmonizes with its surroundings, but also enriches the image of the city of Bydgoszcz.
The Regional Meeting Center for Diabetics is an example of architecture with a mission - thoughtful, aesthetically pleasing and responsive to real social needs. Thanks to such innovative projects, urban space can become not only beautiful, but also useful for every resident.
