The main idea of the owner was to create a unique interior, an elegant and representative apartment with a very large terrace. Responsible for the design and implementation was the MMOA architectural studio, awarded in the Architecture of the Year 2018 competition, in the Young Creator category. Reynaers Aluminum systems were used in the project: Hi-Finity and SlimLine 38, designed for constructing large glazing.
Divided into multiple rooms, the apartment became an elegant suite. Many partition walls and even some load-bearing walls were removed, and passageways were enlarged so that the living room and lobby gained a representative function. The 213 sqm consistently uses floors imitating "Calacatta" marble, which looks great in large areas. An interesting procedure is also the use of the same tiles on selected walls. These marble-like tiles look extremely realistic, as they were created using digital techniques - real marble was scanned and then the scan was applied to ceramics using HD technology, hence their faithful resemblance to the original. This allowed for a stylistic consistency that emphasizes the open spaces. The color scheme of the interior is built on three colors: white, black and gray, enlivened only by an expressive graphic hanging at the passage to the terrace. All this was skillfully juxtaposed with doors with hidden frames and classic white walls. And it is this door that hides the private part of the apartment, behind which are the owners' bedroom, bathroom and dressing rooms. Unique yet discreet lighting by the Belgian company Kreon was used throughout the interior.
Window and door joinery with Reynaers Aluminum systems
We had planned a trip with the investor to Belgium to see Reynaers Aluminum's Hi-Finity at a factory exhibition to see the solution live. The product had just been launched, but it turned out that there was a facility in Wroclaw where Hi-Finity windows were just being installed, so we went to Wroclaw. The windows weren't fully finished yet, and it wasn't possible to check their operation. But that was enough for our investor to make a decision," this is how Maciej Dyląg, an architect from the MMOA studio, talks about the project.
Large glass surfaces were used in the majority of the apartment. The part with a table in the dining area, which was extended to the terrace shed, is extremely impressive - the walls in this part of the premises are made almost entirely of glass. This was made possible by relying on Reynaers Aluminum's SlimLine 38 system, which provides maximum interior illumination, a refined look and high-quality thermal insulation and air infiltration parameters. The result was an extremely striking glass facade.
A consistent color scheme, the use of large-scale tiles both in the interior and on the terrace, thoughtful lighting and, above all, the opening up of the space by knocking down walls and replacing windows - all these measures meant that the architects succeeded in creating an unusual, minimalist and light-filled apartment.
