"10 Questions to an Interior Designer" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...". This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Tomasz Polański talks about his approach to design.

Tomasz Polański — a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology. From the very beginning of his studies he gained experience in such offices as IMB Asymetria and Archifactory. Since 2021, he has been running Polanski.studio in Cracow.

1. For me, home is...

Not only a physical place where I stay, but also a space where I feel security and pleasure. It is not just a collection of walls and a roof, but a place where I create memories, learn, grow and share moments with loved ones. Home is an oasis of peace. A place where I can be myself, without any mask or pretense. It is also a space where I find inspiration and strength to overcome life's challenges. Finally, home is a place that shapes my identity and is an integral part of my life.

2. The key to successful interior design is...

Creativity of the designer, the ability to think outside the box and create unique solutions. Combining different styles, colors and textures can give an interior a unique character. A successful interior design is the result of understanding the client, creativity, balance between functionality and aesthetics, and intricate attention to detail. Communication with the client is a key part of this mysterious process.

3. I look for inspiration in...

I find inspiration everywhere, especially in conversations with people. Their stories and challenges become the source of creative solutions, which I transfer to the design. I believe that proper communication is the key to creating and shaping.

4. In working with an investor, the most important thing is...

Building a solid relationship based on mutual trust and clear communication. This is the foundation for understanding expectations and preferences, which allows you to create a project that not only meets them, but exceeds them. A key element is an open exchange of ideas and feedback. This creates the flexibility to adapt to any changes and finesse in the project. Shared vision and commitment are key to achieving satisfaction on both sides.

5. My favorite design style is...

A mix of modern with a touch of vintage and Parisian elegance. I am fascinated by the combination of minimalist design with retro elements that creates a harmonious and original space. I love to experiment with contrasts, combining modern furniture with unique vintage accents. For me, this is not only a way to express individuality, but also to create a space that tells a story and exudes character.

6. The most valuable object in my home is...

An enigmatic artifact that hides history, emotion and mystery. It's an object that adorns a space not only physically, but also spiritually, leaving an intriguing impression of an unknowable mystery.

7. The most common mistake made by people who decorate their apartment on their own is...

Chaos without a clear concept, which leads to an unharmonious space. It is important to maintain balance and focus on the main vision. In addition, lack of time to think about design solutions can cause collisions, and the budget often turns out to be insufficient. Lack of technical knowledge can lead to serious failures. Consultation with professionals and careful project planning are important.

8. My favorite material is...

Stone. Its durability, raw aesthetics and unique patterns give the interior a unique character. Stone is not just a material. It is a manifestation of solidity and elegance that makes a space unforgettable.

9. A trend that I would like to see pass away already is...

Glamour. An excess of artificial glittering elegance obscures individuality and makes the interior lose its authenticity. I prefer a more balanced approach that emphasizes personal style instead of glossy superficiality.

10. Someday, I would like to live in...

In a 70-square-meter house with massive glass and a beautiful view. That way, every morning while enjoying an outstanding cup of coffee and petting my dog, I could look at this magnificent view.
