On the other side of the mirror... the Venetian mirror

02 of August '22

Venetian mirror, also called semi-permeable or Phoenician mirror, is a glass with a reflective effect. It is an extremely interesting material that combines the features of a mirror and a translucent glass. It is used not only in public institutions such as banks, stores or interrogation rooms, but also in modern residential arrangements. With it we can separate zones that are different in function, without depriving them of access to daylight.

Layers of a Venetian mirror

Venetian mirror is not only an interesting decoration, but also a clever utility solution. On the one hand, it presents itself as a mirror, reflecting light, while on the other hand, it allows you to observe what is behind it, like a traditional pane of glass.

This effect is achieved by applying a layer of aluminum or silver to the surface of the glass. It's a similar process to that of a mirror, but here the layer is thinner, allowing it to remain translucent. As a result, some light is transmitted and some is reflected. However, this will only work well with the difference in lighting between the two zones. When we turn on the light behind the Venetian mirror, the space there will be revealed to the householders.

Venetian mirror in residential interior design

Reflective glass allows you to divide the space of the apartment in an interesting way. It will be perfect as a wall between the bedroom and the adjacent bathroom or dressing room. It can separate a work space or a home library. We can incorporate a translucent mirror into a sliding door or a fixed wooden or steel frame. Thus, we will get a partition, which from the outside is a mirror sheet, but sunlight will flow into the room.

This material is also popularly used to be incorporated into small windows of the front door, which gives the possibility of one-sided observation of what is happening in front of the house.
