The house with a courtyard was built in a densely built-up suburb of Poznań. A relatively small plot of about 1700 m² was fully utilized in terms of urban parameters.

The house, as it was designed for an elderly couple, has all main functions on the first floor, while the first floor is intended for a visiting family. The dense neighborhood and busy street prompted us to design the house with 2 courtyards that will give the residents privacy and quietness. The first is the entrance courtyard, separated by a large pergola, with vertical openwork elements shielding the house from the street. Beams 11 meters long further separate the street space. The second, on the other hand, is a relaxation area by the living room and indoor pool. It provides shelter from neighboring properties. Each of these spaces has greenery along the lines of Japanese gardens.

The living room space is 1.5 stories high. An upper band of windows provides additional light, without overheating, thanks to overhanging canopies. The remaining glazing is also protected from excessive sunlight by overhanging flat roofs. The lounge area on the terrace, meanwhile, is sheltered by an automatic pergola - a blind that closes horizontally during rain, so that residents also enjoy the garden in poorer summer weather. The pool has glazing that extends to the sides with a total length of 12 meters. When the window modules are pulled apart, an open space of 8 m in width is created.

The facades of the house were covered with ceramic sintering in a ventilated facade system. Flat roofs have been used extensively for efficient photovoltaic installation. Air handling units (1 for the pool space) with heat recovery are used.

The interiors were designed in a subdued style. Many furniture elements, as well as wall coverings, were individually designed and custom-made. Other furniture such as kitchens, closets, sofas, chairs, tables and beds, come from reputable Italian furniture companies.
