Living room with a library|PdD

Previously we have already looked at the bedroom arrangement of a house near Tarnów. Today we present the living room designed by the MM Architekci studio.

Space for books

When arranging the living room, the most important thing for the investors was the bookcase. This is because this area also serves as a library. Furniture takes up the entire more than five-meter wall. Its implementation was a challenge, because the bookshelf does not consist of modules. The carpenters prepared the elements according to the architect's design and assembled the whole furniture on site. Uneven walls were an additional challenge. The furniture had to be adjusted to them — hence the wider edge of the bookcase.

In vintage style

The core of the structure consists of MDF elements veneered with American walnut. Square segments are filled with thinner lacquered shelves. A practical solution, which at the same time gives the bookcase a vintage atmosphere, are the sliding panels. They are made of glass with an aged mirror effect, so they not only cover part of the shelves, but also effectively reflect the wallpaper decorating the opposite wall. The back of the bookcase is laminated in the old gold color. Thanks to this, the lamps used for reading give pleasant reflections.

A bit of shine

On the other side of the room there is a seating area. Its main element is a sofa upholstered with navy blue velour. It can also be used as a place to sleep if needed. The wall behind it was covered with the aforementioned wallpaper with a decorative vintage-style pattern. As in the bedroom, some elements of the lining have a satin sheen.

Unique accessories

Everything is complemented by a bright carpet, whose viscose pile, although monochromatic, takes on a slightly pearly sheen depending on the angle of the light. It is harmonized with round French tables with metal elements and a light patina. The investor and architect have been searching for interior design gems together for years in antique shops, galleries and flea markets. For example, the cabinet with a granite top standing next to the sofa was found from an apartment put up for sale. Also worth noting is a beautiful two-armed chandelier.
