"10 questions to an interior designer " is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 questions to...". This time our attention is turned to interior designers. In today's episode, Joanna Kulczyńska-Dołowy talks about her approach to design.

Joanna Kulczyńska-Dołowy - architect in charge of the interior design team at the family firm Kulczyński Architekt. The studio, which specializes in architectural, urban planning and interior design projects, was founded almost thirty years ago by her father, architect Bogdan Kulczyński. During almost three decades of activity, the studio has created many projects that have become a permanent part of the landscape of Warsaw and beyond, but have also been recognized in architectural competitions, such as the Olympic Center with the Athina Park office complex, the European Fairy Tale Center in Pacanów, and the Finale Apartments apartment buildings. Kulczyński Architekt studio has to its credit revitalizations and adaptations of existing buildings, e.g. Fabryka Trzciny, Dom Handlowy Mysia 3, Smolna 40, projects of private residential buildings and interiors.

1. For me home is...

A space of relaxation, a safe place where we put down our shield and take off our armor. A space that should be uncompromisingly in line with the needs and tastes of the householder. Well lit, acoustically and ergonomically designed. A home is a second skin. Whether we live there alone, with our family or with our dog - we need to feel that it is our place on earth.

2. The key to successful interior design is...

Understanding the priorities of the residents and combining them with a creative process that escapes fashionable trends. A successful interior design is one that lasts over time and we will still like it 10 years from now.

3. I look for inspiration in...

Most preferably in nature, travel, hiking. Then ideas that are not quotes come to mind. Something new and original. Movies and art in the broadest sense are also a great inspiration.

4. In cooperation with the developer the most important thing is....

I will not be original - interpersonal chemistry, trust and professionalism.

5. my favorite design style is...

It is tailored, being a combination of different themes. With a big touch of modernity, building a sense of space and lightness.

6. the most valuable object in my home is...

My sweet secret!

7. The most common mistake in self-designed interiors is....

Lack of distance to the designed space. Putting into it everything that we like separately, but will not necessarily look good together. Lack of knowledge regarding ergonomics.

8. My favorite material is...

Wood and stone.

9. A trend I wish would pass away already is....

Interiors "for show", artificial wealth, glitz and carbon footprint-packed interiors full of everything. Although actually, I don't think this is a trend. Typical trends are indifferent to me, I don't pay too much attention to them. I approach each project individually, putting the investor's expectations in the foreground.

10. Someday I would like to live in...

An old tenement house with a soul or in a remote area in the mountains.
