Bold color combinations in an apartment in Warsaw's Żoliborz district

20 of February '23

Color, raw materials, furniture with soul and stylish accessories - all this creates an unusual arrangement combining beauty and functionality. Designed by the owners of ATUT Architektura Wnętrz, the apartment is a synthesis of industrial style, timeless Scandinavian design and elegance characteristic of art déco.

Colorful accent

The apartment was designed for a young woman and her pet. The owner had one dream for this project: a green sofa. Architects Malgorzata Gastol-Fajkowska and Kaja Kowalska opted for an elegant emerald shade of green, which covers not only the coveted sofa, but also the dining room chairs and the upholstered headboard in the bedroom. The combination of green with the natural shade of oak wood, dove gray, accents of black and copper "jewelry" makes the apartment an oasis of peace and tranquility. In consideration of the pet and its preferences, the upholstered furniture was covered with easy-to-clean pet proof material. In the hallway and bathroom, stoneware in a universal gray color was used, and in the rest of the apartment a plank with a distinct wood grain.

Kitchen with copper accents

The kitchen was designed in an L-shape. It has room for a small microwave, an under-counter oven, a four-ring induction cooktop, a telescopic hood, a single-bowl sink with a drainer and a large dishwasher hidden behind a furniture front. The freestanding refrigerator was fitted into an alcove. The lower furniture unit was finished in gloss and fitted with practical edge handles. The work surface and the fronts of the upper cabinets were made of laminated boards imitating natural wood. In the kitchen apron - the space between the countertop and the lower rim of the wall cabinets, striking hexagonal tiles with a concrete structure were used. Decorating the space are copper accessories: fixtures and lighting fixtures. The dining room features a folding table that can successfully accommodate up to ten people.

Consistency of arrangement

An additional relaxation area is a comfortable corner sofa. Thanks to a movable handle, the TV screen can be positioned towards the corner or the table, depending on your preferences. Illumination of the tabletop is provided by a decorative pendant lamp. Two parallel ceiling rails evenly illuminate the entire room, while a striking wall lamp by the sofa allows evening reading. The coherence of the composition has been maintained thanks to consistency in materials and colors. The dominant color of each area is dove gray, appearing in the shade of the wall paint, concrete structure and upholstery and accessories. All the furniture built-ins have elements made of wood-like laminate, and emerald green is an integral addition that enlivens the space.

Bathroom in shades of black

Bold patches of black are a characteristic element of the presented apartment. Although in the first association black can arouse fear of darkening the space, it is an extremely elegant and timeless color. Its use in the design of a small bathroom on the plane of a single wall surrounded by contrasting bright colors created optical depth, making the room appear larger. A collection of small black squares with an original structure creates a striking three-dimensional mosaic highlighted by the play of light and shadow. Original copper fixtures add chicness, while oak elements add coziness. The wall next to the bath was finished with impregnated decorative plaster imitating raw concrete. Just above the edge of the bath there is a practical recess for putting away cosmetics. The role of lighting is played by a minimalist plafond, decorative hanging lamps and atmospheric LED lighting hidden in the upper rim of the niche.

Bedroom with closet

Due to the small size of the apartment, the bedroom also serves as a closet. It was designed with capacious built-in furniture with space for storing clothes, books and other household essentials. The white color of the fronts does not weigh down the space. One of the bedside cabinets was replaced by a cozy corner for the owner's dog - this is also his bedroom. The wall opposite the rest area was highlighted by a composition of geometric shapes, which in an original way dynamizes the room.
