Origins

The idea of vertical shields appeared in America, in the second half of the 19th century. They were produced on a large scale there by the Louverdrape company, which in the 1960s extended the license to the Lecleuse company in Belgium, and so verticals appeared in Europe. Subsequent companies developed off-the-shelf components and created their own systems for mounting and operating the blinds. Today, verticals are used in residential and office interiors around the world. In Poland they appeared in the late 1980s.

The widespread use of blinds of various types, has become a breakthrough in interior styling. After all, they have replaced traditional curtains and drapes. And not infrequently, this fashion had to be subordinated to other design elements as well. They are associated with rooms such as conference rooms, halls, with office buildings, offices and hospitals, and their main task was to cover high windows.

Return in a new style

With the development of modern single-family housing and development houses, verticals were increasingly used in private interiors, in living rooms or bedrooms. Now they are coming back into fashion in a much better style. They are installed not only for practical purposes, but also for aesthetics. Undoubtedly, their quality has improved, and the large selection of materials, more noble designs and textures, allows you to arrange a unique interior with them. In addition to shielding us from the sun, and thus helping to maintain the right temperature, they will also protect us from unwanted glances from outside. Vertical elements will optically organize our room and make it appear higher.

Verticals will suit wherever minimalism is the focus. They will perfectly present themselves in a spacious, elegant architecture, maintained in a restrained style. They will perfectly compose with geometric shapes and large glazing, preferably bearing modern woodwork. The choice of light colors will only make the sun's rays subdued. Dark stripes, when properly angled, contrasting with daylight, will make the interior gain character.

An interesting contemporary application is to create partition walls from them. The rail can be mounted anywhere and in this way, without cutting off access to light and not permanently, separate a part in spacious but long apartments.

Technically speaking

In addition to traditional, manually operated systems, more modern electric verticals have also appeared. They are mounted on a special rail, equipped with a control mechanism. It can be attached to the wall or ceiling. Unlike horizontal blinds, we can mount them along a curved line, for example, as curtains for bay windows. This is also a helpful solution for window openings with unusual, for example, slanted shapes. The guides, depending on your needs, are mounted at any angle.

Today, fortunately, we also have a wide choice of materials from which blinds are made. From soft fabrics, smooth, textured or matte, to rigid imitations of wood. This allows us to choose the right degree of light transmission. Modern, reinforced fabrics are no longer as easily deformed as dwaniej, do not absorb dust and unpleasant odors. Movable wooden laths, on the other hand, although heavy, are durable and resistant to moisture. When choosing the width, it is necessary to pay attention to the size of the room and adjust it proportionally to the total.

Summary

Although the verticals of yesteryear, not everyone associates well, today we are dealing with a completely new product. Thanks to modern materials and solutions, they are gaining in quality. After all, the very concept is very inspiring. So why not give them a second chance?
