Boho - artistic bohemian style

28 of February '22

Boho combines elements from different eras and cultures, it is a unique kaleidoscope of color patterns, textures. It is even ideal for those who want their homes to be full of life, culture and interesting objects. Such an interior is a museum of the owner's entire life. Its aesthetics are at odds with modern sensibilities, and also extremely creative, carefree and unconventional.

Artistic bohemian living

Bohemian-style interior design began in the 19th century in Paris, France. The style was inspired by artists, writers, performers and nomads who believed that creativity was more valuable than money. The original Name "boho" (from the word "bohemian") refers precisely to this French group of people. With the compilation of their cultures, ideals and refusal to adapt completely, they inadvertently started a trend in design, but also fashion. The bohemian style, named after these nomadic artists, aimed to subvert beauty standards by rejecting rules and embracing unconventionality.

The most important features of a boho style interior

Boho is defined by a lack of structure, instead dominated by carefree layers of pattern, texture and color. At the heart of the bohemian aesthetic is its uniqueness and personal approach to design. Interiors are not designed for the pleasure of others, but for the well-being of the homeowner.

The power of colors and patterns

Thecolor scheme of this style is rather warm. Earth and nature colors are commonly used, but they are interspersed with more expressive accents. Think deep browns, greens and grays as base colors. To break up these warm color compositions, intense colors like saturated purple, fiery orange or electric blue often enter as accents. The interweaving of different colors is a hallmark of this style.

You can also freely mix patterns and textures. Don't be afraid to use styles that wouldn't necessarily fit together in a conventional way. Let's use dyed fabrics and patterns from around the world to give the space a sense of exoticism. To add variety to the textures in the interior, let's hang a beautiful kilim on the wall alongside photos and artwork. Remember that although saturated color is characteristic of boho style, white can be useful as a background for richer tones. It will be a great contrast and a way to combine a mix of patterns and colors.

Natural materials

As the opposite of minimalism, modernity and elegance, boho design could be described as "the more, the better." Decorative materials here must be cleverly mixed and matched. The basis is primarily materials of natural origin - rugs made of jute or sisal or curtains made of linen or cotton. Often the elements in such arrangements look slightly worn - undamaged or dirty, but also unshiny and new. Tassels, crochet and macramé often adorn pillows, curtains and rugs that create a cozy, gathering place.

Unique items

Authentic pieces of furniture that truly fit this style cannot be found in an ordinary store. These are treasures carefully selected over the years, each of which should be unique and tell a story. It's also quite an adventure for prospectors, fans of antique fairs and even local junk sheds. Furniture restored by us, will be a unique souvenir. Because a boho style room should say to us: "sit down and stay for a while," furniture with straight-line finishes and modern glossy materials will not fit here. Let's choose comfortable pieces such as chaise lounges, recliners or sofas with distinctive colors.

Atmospheric lighting

Atmospheric, unobtrusive lighting will be ideal to complete the welcoming atmosphere. Instead of the main lighting located overhead, it is better to deploy several floor and table lamps adding lanterns and candles to everything.

Necessary greenery

Greenery is life! Flowers and green leaves are elements that will enliven the interior tremendously. Let's put a beautiful monstera on the shelf, and place a hanging fern in a macramé flowerbed. Such a treatment will not only add variety to the room, but also improve the air quality, so the more, the better. Even if we are not experts and have problems with regular care of plants, we can choose those species that are easy to maintain. These will be, for example, succulents - widely available in many colors and textures. Not only is their appearance spectacular, but they often require only a small amount of light and occasional watering.

Unique accessories

Fill your space with a collection of fabrics, patterns, books, artwork, mirrors, vintage pieces or travel memories, and chic chaos ensues. For added individuality, add family heirlooms, handmade items or furniture from a bygone era. Accessories should be personal, so use what you love most. Despite all its anarchy, free-form and design, boho has some common themes that can be followed to create an effortlessly eclectic space.
