Where to start

Wallpaper is an interesting way to arrange an empty wall in a room. When considering where to start the installation, it is worth taking into account the natural lighting of the room. If you are wallpapering an entire room, start with strong natural light. If only one wall is to be covered with wallpaper, creating an interesting accent in the interior - the light is less important, but it is worth starting from the most representative side.

Wallpaper gluing step by step

There are various techniques for applying wallpaper. Despite which one you choose, you need to apply it extremely precisely and carefully. The choice of designs is really huge from beautiful floral patterns to fairy-tale landscapes for children's rooms. With such unique patterns, we need to be especially precise - every shift and imperfection will be visible here.

1 Measuring

Even before buying wallpaper, it is necessary to properly measure the room or wall. For this you can even use special calculators available on the web. Subtract the window or door openings from the total wall area. However, be sure to leave some wallpaper in reserve - when gluing, we will apply more material than the height of the room.

2 Preparing the walls

Before wallpapering, the walls should be properly prepared. They should not have any irregularities - all bulges will be even more visible on the surface of the wallpaper. Also take into account that walls and edges are not always even. Next, it is worth priming all the walls where you want to put wallpaper.

3. layout

Before we stick the first strip of wallpaper, let's draw out well where to place it. For this we will need a meter pencil and a level. We can draw a line along which our wallpaper should run. For wallpapers with a dominant element, let's plan its placement on the wall that people notice first. Let's measure the width and height of this wall and mark its center point.

4. preparing the wallpaper

Unrolled from the roll, we will need to cut the wallpaper into pieces. They should be about 10 cm longer than the height of the room. If there is a pattern on the wallpaper, this should be taken into account in this step. This excess paper will help us fit the pattern nicely when gluing it to the walls.

5. gluing

We unroll the wallpaper, checking for defects. We drag the paper over the edge of the work table to remove the wrapping. Depending on what type of wallpaper we have, we will glue the paper or the wall. If only we have the possibility, the latter option is easier. Apply the glue to the wall, preferably with a roller a few centimeters wider than the wallpaper we intend to hang. However, if we have to apply the glue on the wallpaper, be careful not to get it on the table, because it will destroy the next sheet.

6. applying wallpaper

We place the first sheet of wallpaper, starting from the ceiling, so that its right edge runs down the drawn line. Make sure there is about 5 cm of excess paper left over the top to allow for trimming. The first sheet of wallpaper is crucial, as all the others will match it, so it is important to make sure it is applied perfectly, otherwise the wallpaper may look crooked.

7. smoothing the surface

When the right edge is aligned correctly vertically it is time to smooth the paper with a spatula or brush. Do this from the center of the paper to the edge, making sure there are no bubbles or bumps. Also check that the right edge stays on the drawn line.

8 Trimming the edge

After determining the right length, let's fold the top and bottom of the paper. Gently pull the paper away from the wall and cut the wallpaper in the bend, preferably using a wallpaper cutter.
