The perfect mirror for your interior

Shape, size and style of the mirror frame

The right mirror can give an entire space a whole new life. Since mirrors will only reflect what is in front of them, choose the wall wisely , as the reflection becomes part of the room's decor. Mirrors serve many functions. We will use them to enhance, define or accentuate what is already present in the space or place it where it will reflect a favorite view. You can also use a mirror to open up a room to the garden or add some light to the interior.

Find the shape that suits you

As you may have already noticed, shape plays an important role in defining any space. It can create a mood, emphasize what is already there, or give the illusion of something else.

  • A long, horizontal shape will emphasize the width of a room, as we move our gaze along its long line.

  • Atall, vertical shape will draw attention to the height of the room. Looking toward it, your eyes will wander upward.

  • An angular shape, such as a square or rectangle, will help give the arrangement an orderly, restrained look.

  • Using a rounded or curved mirror frame will give you a softer or maybe even fancy look, depending on its style.

  • You can even create a shape by grouping several mirrors as you would with a photograph or framed artwork.

Size matters

The size of a mirror can affect the effect you want to create. Thechoice of size should also be based on whether you want the mirror to be a focal point, an accent, or just a backdrop.

  • A single small mirror on a large wall will look insignificant and get lost in the overall arrangement. Choose the right size for your chosen wall.

  • If you want the mirror to be the focal point of your room, make sure it's large enough to stand out, but also define it by choosing a frame that will make it even more noticeable.

  • If you want your mirror to become a backdrop, you should choose one that is very large. Its function will be to enlarge the space. Such a mirror should not have a frame, as it is the one that catches the eye.

  • Smaller mirrors can serve as accents, here catching the light, there reflecting an interesting object. They can also be used in groups. If you plan to use smaller mirrors in groups, keep in mind that together they form a much larger shape and can be the focal point of a room.

Style counts

Your mirrors can reflect the style you already have in your room. However, you can dramatically change its appearance by choosing a style that is detached from the existing arrangement and therefore works as an accent. The shape and size of the mirror is quite important, but the frame plays an even greater role in this case.

  • An ornate, carved or gilded frame often works best in a more traditional or ethnic-inspired setting, but can be used as a contrast in a more modern interior.

  • Aframe with straight lines or made of unusual materials is often more appropriate for an informal, or modern interior.

  • Various rustic effects and an aged look would work well in a country or even industrial style.
