Two living rooms in one house? Scandinavian style introduced into a communist-era apartment? An interior filled with bold colors? The Rzeszow-Cracow studio Ring Studio undertook to create a project with an unusual arrangement.
Scandinavian inspiration
The investor comes from Scandinavia. For the time she lived in Poland, she decided to renovate an apartment located in a communist-era designed housing estate in Krakow. The climate of Scandinavian interiors as a point of reference and the artistic soul of the owner (as mentioned by the designers) made the arrangement exceptionally bold in style.
Mid-Century Modern period color palette
Salmon in a blue abyss
The design is, in a way, a reference to the style of the Bauhaus school - the modernist trend that initiated the later Mid-Century Modern style. What draws attention here is the color scheme, which is a combination of dark navy blue, blues, shades of salmon pink and white. Strong colors juxtaposed, with each other on the basis of opposites, complement each other and fill the space, making it a cozy place, consistent in terms of arrangement, and definitely intriguing.
Geometric planes, rectangles and circle cut-outs are arranged in a seemingly random way, but a properly taken perspective explains the whole arrangement to us. For example, a strip in blue, routed above the TV , continues on the ceiling, at one point breaking off. This invisible end line is marked by the beginning of the lamellas on the perpendicular wall, just below the balcony window. The composition is thus closed. Even the TV set here becomes a plane that fits into the context of the color spots.

The lounge area is wrapped with planes in soft shades of pink. Above the stately sofa, which has a salmon-colored upholstery, hangs a graphic displaying geometric abstraction. Opposite stands a light pink dresser, with a form with arched sides. Masking the shelf slats and tapered legs add to its freshness and optical lightness. Extremely stylish in this part of the living room are also the curtains, divided in color across, despite the fact that they are made of thick material, they give the impression of the background colors permeating through them. Hidden behind the curtain rail, it becomes a continuation of the bleached ceiling.

Moving away from the window, in the depths of the apartment, colors of a cooler hue dominate. Gently falling into sapphire, a blue wall of cabinets closes the space and is the backdrop for a dark brown set of vintage-style table and chairs. The dark color scheme creates a mysterious mood in this part of the living room.
Thus, one can perceive the composition of this space as an intermingling of cold and warm tones, a play of subtlety with decisiveness, or even a complement of feminine and masculine styles.

An apartment with more than one living room
A second living room was arranged in a room that also serves as a hallway. Here we also observe mid-20th century styling. This small interior is sort of a negative of the living room proper. The walls have light-colored partitions, and the iconic furniture models are displayed against them. Here we also find a bookshelf and adequate lighting. Thanks to the unusual solution of the entrance area, the investor gained an additional room, which is modern and pleasant to use.
