LADNINI reliefs are the result of Marcin Ładny and Zuza Dzięgielewska's experience in the fields of architecture and art. The three-dimensional forms go beyond the traditional flat picture surface and their shapes change with the light cast on them.
LADNINI — a Polish brand founded by Marcin Ładny and Zuza Dzięgielewska. The architect duo is dedicated to creating timeless, handmade wall reliefs in the spirit of minimalism. They believe that functional art should be timeless. They design LADNINI reliefs as unique compositions that go beyond the prevailing trends.

Katarzyna Szostak: How are your reliefs created?
Marcin Ładny: LADNINI reliefs are created by milling leafy plywood into the shape we designed. Then, they are hand-finished with different colors and textures of plaster. It is because of this texture that, despite the repetitive nature of the designs, each of our reliefs is unique in its own way.

Katarzyna: How does light affect the perception of reliefs?
Marcin: The light falling on the relief is the most important factor affecting the perception of it. Our monoliths are designed in a three-dimensional way. The solids of the composition overlap, creating a harmonious combination. Depending on the time of day, the reliefs bring out further dimensions. This is due to the difference in levels and the structure that creates successive compositions. The trajectory of sunlight creates more relief shapes.

Katarzyna: Where did the name of your studio come from?
Marcin: The name of the studio consists of a combination of two words: Ładni (Ladni) and inni (diffrent). LADNINI is a community connecting people who appreciate quality, harmony and beauty of interiors.

Katarzyna: How does your experience as an interior designer translate into creating reliefs?
Marcin: First of all, it manifests itself in the knowledge we have gained from our studies, as well as from our work and travels. As a result, we think like designers about the principles of composition and design workshop. We also know the needs of clients. Experience in the field of architecture allows us to freely disguise our materials, technologies and design knowledge.

Katarzyna: In addition to Poland, you have also lived in Spain and the Netherlands. How does traveling and learning about local culture influence design?
Marcin: We often mention that traveling and living abroad has shaped our world view, knowledge and taste. We often talk about our thoughts related to a different environment. Spain was our first architectural trip together. We gained knowledge there that we didn't have before. While studying in Barcelona, we met many amazing architects. Both from our generation and older ones, such as our lecturers. They were the ones who showed us that design is all about evoking feelings in the viewer. It's enjoying the beauty and functionality of an interior. Spain allowed us to understand the importance of materials in interiors. There we saw natural stones, structural plaster or the use of wood in design. The Netherlands, on the other hand, made us realize how important detail is. While working in Amsterdam, we were able to learn from the best architects. In addition to interior finishes, they showed us how important it is to choose the right furniture, structures or decorations. The Dutch appreciate the quality of even the smallest items, which, in addition to their appearance, often represent great functionality. While working in Amsterdam, we had the opportunity to interact with finishing materials. It was there that we fell in awe of plywood and the possibility of using it in interiors. We also created the first prototype of a relief — PORTRET, which became the precursor of LADNINI reliefs there.
