Biophilia- the term comes from a combination of the words "bio" meaning life and the Greek word "philo", which means "love". Thus, it is literally a love of nature. The theory of biophilia assumes that humans have a deep-seated love of nature, which is an intuitive and natural need encoded in our DNA, allowing us to evolve as a species. The popularity of this trend grew during the pandemic. More people then started growing mini vegetable and herb gardens, even on balconies. In the interiors, on the other hand, we bet on many new plants.

Earthy colors
Bet on colors associated with nature. These can include shades of the sky, the green of vegetation, and earth colors ranging from soft beige to chocolate browns. Remember that among the colors of nature you will also find faded red, orange, sun yellow or peachy pink. So you don't have to limit yourself to only subdued colors.

Green me
Plants are the most important element of a biophilic style interior. Don't limit yourself in their quantity. Greenery is to be abundant, as it will make us feel closer to nature. They also make the space cozier. Think about plants that improve air quality, such as ficus, benjamin, fern, dracaena, horsetail or ivy. Plant them in decorative but natural-looking pots or hang them in a macramé flowerbed. In addition to plants in pots, also take care of your balcony or terrace. So-called green walls, or vertical gardens, are also an interesting solution. They are formed by plant compositions growing in steps on a specific area. This is a good solution especially for busy people, because you do not have to worry about its care. This will be done for you by an irrigation system hidden on top of the structure.

Natural design
Nature inspiration doesn't have to be only literal, though. Also add patterns and shapes to your interior that reference those found in nature. A floral patterned wallpaper or a banana leaf pattern would be ideal. Choose pillows and bedding with a tropical pattern depicting both flora and fauna. You can also hang herbarium-like graphics on the wall.

Touch of nature
Nature is worth not only seeing, but also feeling. So make sure to choose natural materials. A biophilic interior should include furniture made of wood or plywood, preferably with a clear grain and visible knot areas. These imperfections are a real decoration. For the floor choose planks, parquet or stone. Complete the whole with accessories made of rattan, wicker, bamboo and cork. Nature should also prevail in textiles. Cotton, wool, silk and linen will be perfect for furniture upholstery, curtains, pillows, tablecloths, blankets, rugs and bedding.

Biophilic details
Accessories are the part of a biophilic-style interior where we can really go wild. After all, decorations can be inspired by the natural environment in the broadest sense, as well as by plants and the animal world. Their role here is not reduced to decoration only. Images of nature have a beneficial effect on our mood and facilitate relaxation. Ideal decorations in such interiors are items made of natural braids, i.e. wicker, straw, rattan, seagrass, reeds, bamboo or jute. Some of them you can also create yourself, such as macramé. Don't forget about stones as well. On the cabinet, among the plants you can set the most beautiful specimens. Ceramics and animal figurines will also be ideal.
