Phew... how hot! We like it to be warm on holidays, but when the temperature in the house rises to over 30°C, we start to get tired. What can you do to cool down the interior of your home a bit during the peak heat? We've got 7 practical tips for you to keep the temperature in your home pleasant even during the greatest heat waves. You'll find both budget ideas and those that require more money.
1. Evening and night ventilation
In the evenings, when the temperature drops, soundly ventilate the entire house. It's a good idea to leave the windows open all night, and in the morning, when the bar on the thermometer begins to rise, close them tightly. In this way, you will effectively lower the temperature throughout the house, and by closing the windows in the morning, you will prevent the flow of hot air. As a result, the comfortable temperature in the apartment will last much longer .
2. White and thick curtains
During the day, it is a good idea to cover the windows with white thick curtains. If you don't have such, and only need a temporary solution for a few days of the greatest heat, you can use, for example, white thick sheets and cover the windows with them. White reflects light, and fabrics of this color do not heat up as quickly as dark ones. You will get the best effect if you keep the windows tightly closed during the day.
3. Air conditioning
The way that requires the most money, but is also the most effective, is to install air conditioning. You can install air conditioners throughout the house or only in the areas where you spend the most time, such as the living room with a kitchenette. The effects of air conditioning are immediate, but it is worth remembering that people who are very sensitive to temperature fluctuations may experience discomfort when the device is running too strongly.
Portable air conditioners can also be an alternative to classic air conditioning. This is a cheaper and slightly less effective solution, but it is worth being aware that such also exists. In the case of portable air conditioners, the pipe that exhausts cold air is exposed through a window. Kits with such air conditioners very often also sell special curtains, so that the hot air from the open window will not get inside.
The most effective way to cool the house is to install an air conditioner. However, this option also requires the largest financial outlay.

4. Fans
A much cheaper, but also quite effective way to cool the air in the house are fans. A good choice will be to put two fans - one at the entrance and the other at the window. Such a system will make the air cool faster and more efficiently. A great homemade way to improve the efficiency of the fan is to put two bottles filled with ice-frozen water in front of it. Such bottles will keep cool for quite a long time, and the fan will allow you to distribute it throughout the room.
5. External or internal roller blinds
External roller blinds or those blackout blinds designed for inside, very effectively protect the interior of the house from the scorching rays of the sun and the heat penetrating through the windows. Covering such blinds will allow you to maintain a temperature similar to the one you reached after ventilating the house all night. However, such a solution has quite a big disadvantage. External and internal blackout roller blinds almost do not let the sun's rays through at all, which means that when you pull them up, the house will be completely dark. And, after all, no one wants to spend all day in artificial lighting.
6. Plants
If you own a private home, you might consider planting climbing plants to create an extra layer of insulation on the building's facade. However, it is also worth considering plants inside the house. The right species of plants will help rid the interior of your home of toxins and further moisten the air, making it more enjoyable to stay indoors during a hot day.

7. Humidify the air
Hot days in Poland are very often associated with dry air that irritates the respiratory tract. So it is worth taking care to moisturize it during hot weather. Special devices for maintaining adequate air humidity, such as evaporative or ultrasonic humidifiers, will work great for this. However, if you do not want to invest extra money, you can hang up, for example, wet towels in the room. Such a solution will work especially well, for example, in a bedroom or a child's room, providing a peaceful, comfortable sleep.
Hot weather can be a nuisance, but fortunately there are several ways to effectively deal with high temperatures at home. Use them to your heart's content, drink plenty of water, and if you can, spend warm days in a shady forest or park or by the water. Autumn will come sooner than you think!
