1001 is the number of another competition announced by the Cracow branch of the Association of Polish Architects, this time commissioned by the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society. The subject of the one-stage, implementation architectural and urban planning competition is the design of a model building of a mountain hostel on Luban.

Luban (1211 meters above sea level) is the highest peak of the Luban range lying in the southeastern part of the Gorce Mountains, topped by a viewing tower built in 2015. Through the Lubań range and across the top of the massif runs the Main Beskid Trail, on whose route from Krościenko nad Dunajcem to Turbacz (about 11 hours of walking!), there are no permanent facilities allowing tourists to stay overnight, rest or take shelter. So far, there have been two facilities in the area - on Samorodach, below the top of Luban, a shelter operated in the years 1937-1944, which was burned down by the occupiers. All that remains of it are the ruins of the ground floor made of brick and stone. Even shorter (built in 1973-1976) operated a small mountain shelter on the Wyrobki Glade, slightly below the summit of Luban, which completely burned down in 1978. The construction of a new, year-round mountain hostel on Luban, which is the subject of the competition, is important primarily for the safe organization of tourism in this picturesque region for people and for the Gorce nature. As we read in the regulations, the proposed architectural and landscape solutions, principles of shaping the space and development, as well as communication services should take into account the tradition and rank of the place, its role, as well as the nature of the designed object and the values it should bring.

The location of a tourist facility in this place will bring this region of the Gorce Mountains closer and more attractive, and will ensure the safety of wandering tourists. The construction of the shelter will also continue the shelter tradition of Luban initiated in 1937 by the Tatra Ski Association, and will contribute to the rationalization of tourist traffic, reducing the pressure of tourists on other valuable natural areas. The year-round facility , located in the peak part of the range , will also be an observation point, its staff will be able to assist the forest administration in signaling threats including fire and those related to environmental devastation, the competition organizers write.
