We invite you to participate in the TEORIA competition and PRACTICE scholarship organized by the Stefan Kurylowicz Foundation, which is looking for innovative and courageous architects, students and graduates who will take up the challenge - write a text on the relationship between culture and architecture or design an improvement of public space in any city in Poland.
The TEORIA competition seeks original diagnoses and new solutions. Competition entries can be submitted in any form: a manifesto or essay, a dissertation or presentation, a scientific analysis or a letter. Author's graphics accompanying the content will be an added advantage. The Jury will select the best text from the submitted entries. Its author or author together with the Jury and the Foundation will collaborate throughout the publishing process from content editing, English translation, proofreading and editing.
ThePRACTICE Fellowship is a six-month program. The project submitted to the competition can be about any city in Poland. The Foundation is looking for ideas for socially responsible architecture. The scholarship budget is PLN 16,000 and is divided into two stages, the best architects additionally receive substantive support in the development of the winning idea.
Today's thinking about architecture is no longer reduced to aesthetic or economic value. Increasingly, today's designers must ask themselves how to build and design to take into account the problems facing societies, i.e. overpopulation, increasingly scarce green spaces, dwindling urban water supplies, an aging population, or growing psychological problems. A good architect can design socially responsible architecture in the spirit of the idea of sustainable urban development. Stefan Kurylowicz believed that good architectural design is a combination of beauty and pragmatism. He valued architecture that was bold and daring, but also responsible and shaping attitudes. It is precisely such architects that the Stefan Kurylowicz Foundation wants to support through the TEORIA competition and PRACTICE scholarship programs," says Prof. Ewa Kurylowicz, Chairwoman of the Foundation's Council.
Applications for the competition and scholarship can be sent until January 7, 2020, using the form on the Foundation's website.
