AUTHOR'S DESCRIPTION [excerpts].
The location of the Music Theater is unusual. The historic buildings of important city buildings and the railroad area seem to evoke the thesis that a dialogue with history can only be carried out in the language of modernity. The roof, the dome of a building important in the life of the urban community, is often clearly revealed in the city skyline. Objects of worship, culture, important local, state institutions mark their presence, creating what we call an urban landscape. They already indicate from afar where the area of the actual city center is located. And although the skylines of many cities have undergone tremendous transformation in recent decades due to the rapid growth of large-scale commercial volume, the metropolitan character is still formed in many of them by old buildings.
The fifth façade is becoming important. While nothing out of the ordinary is expected of commercial buildings - office or residential - it is the roof of public buildings that draws attention during our virtual travels around the world. In an era of widespread photography and the sharing of these photographs, drone views give us a new picture of a site's development.
The historic buildings adjacent to the project site have a certain weight, characterized by solid masonry exterior walls, deeply set windows, multi-story triangular gables and extremely expressive roof geometry. The view, on old postcards and today, of the former buildings from the Kaponiera traffic circle with the gables and towers of the buildings revealed in successive plans is extremely picturesque. It is materially and emotionally significant.
The railroad, with all its technical beauty, introduces energy and dynamism. Often the first image of a city we visit is built precisely on the basis of the view from the window of the train in which we arrive. It can be a very spectacular image - as in Berlin, where the proximity of buildings "at our fingertips" makes crossing the city an extraordinary attraction. The location of the Theater and the revitalization of the land and buildings adjacent to the railroad area provide an opportunity to bring out the scenic qualities of the place and bring city life to a "forgotten" part of the space.
jury's opinion
The award was given for the attractive and apt shaping of the Music Theater building. Its spatial and formal openness to the city space would give a chance to play an important role in this space and for the residents of Poznan. Doubts are raised about the solutions for the entrance area, the chamber hall and the elevation materials used.
