We know the winners of the special edition of the international jumpthegap® competition organized in cooperation with the Barcelona Design Center. The winners were 5 innovative projects that change the approach to hygiene in public spaces.
Theinternational jumpthegap® competition has announced the winners of the 2020 special edition. This year's task was focused on new products and solutions that address the current pandemic situation in the sphere of hygiene, sanitation infrastructure and quality of life. The goal of the competition, which has been held since 2004, is to support young, talented architects and promote their projects. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's edition was expanded to include the issue of increased hygiene, with the goal of designing an object or service for the bathroom that will respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
The competition received 297 designs, created by 1,567 participants from 94 countries. The entries were judged by a jury consisting of:
- Carl Hensman - head of the water, sanitation and hygiene program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USA,
- Deborah Seward - director of the United Nations Information Center, Belgium
- Luciano Kruk - founder of the Luciano Kruk Arquitectos design office, Argentna
- Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat - founders of WantedDesign, USA,
- Isabel Roig - director of Barcelona Design Center, Spain,
- Xavier Torras - Roca Communication and Brand Manager, Spain.
- Jordi Corral - Roca Global Innovation Project Manager, Spain,
- Ernest Hernandez, Roca Design Manager, Spain.
The jury selected five works that received equal prizes. The awarded projects are united by functionality, design and a focus on reducing the threat of contagion in public spaces.

Bubble Bump is a device that automatically dispenses disinfectant liquid, creating soap bubbles, so as to convince children to take care of hygiene on a daily basis. The device is intended for establishments, i.e. kindergartens and schools. As we read in the jury's verdict, the project was recognized for teaching good habits through play, rather than coercion.

E-Tapis is a smart device that uses disinfectant liquid and UV light to clean shoes. The device is designed for facilities where extraordinary hygiene measures are required, such as hospitals. The jury recognized the project for its user-friendliness and ease of implementation, as both the product's implementation and installation are seamless and adaptable to both domestic and public spaces.
