We know two Polish projects on the EU Mies Award 2022 short list!!!

17 of January '22

Two projects from Poland will have the opportunity to compete for the EU Mies Award 2022. Of the twenty-five objects from Poland, two have been shortlisted for the so-called shortlist.

competition in a pandemic world

The Mies van der Rohe Award is among the most important architectural honors in Europe. Due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2021, the organization of the 2022 edition was postponed. This was primarily due to the need to visit each final realization, by all members of the jury.

The selection of award winners was carried out in a different way. In the first phase, nominations from October 2018 to October 2020 were made available. In the next part, those responsible for the nominations pointed to the objects realized from November 2020 to April 2021. These realizations completed the final list.

It was an exceptional year for Polish design teams, as as many as twenty-five realizations made the list!

short list

The award jury selected forty realizations from all over Europe as part of the so-called short list. In the next phase of the competition, the Jury will select five objects that will compete for the Grand Prix EU Mies Award 2022.

This group includes two projects from Poland: the Great Synagogue Memorial Park in Oświęcim by NArchitekTURA and the Local Activity Center designed by MWArchitekci.

TheGreat Synagogue Memorial Park in Os wiecim is a project by the NArchitekTURA studio, which, in designing the premise, tried to preserve the symbolic dimension of the space while taking care to use the material. Bartosz Haduch, one of the authors, talks about the project for our portal.
