What are the characteristics of nautical style?

The nauticalstyle was pioneered by Queen Victoria's son Prince Edward, dressed in navy in 1846. He liked it so much that the trend began to be replicated first in cottages, and then transferred to houses and apartments. To create a living room in this style, we can use anything that resembles the salty sea air, the sandy beach, vacations and the sound of coastal waves. Natural textiles such as linen and cotton bring to mind the freshness of the sea. Polished brass, as well as wicker and rattan will wonderfully fit in with the raw charm of the marine lifestyle. The whole will be complemented by accessories. White and navy blue stripes, typical nautical patterns or pillows in a shade of royal blue are the most important determinants of the nautical style. Shells, fishing nets, lanterns, compasses, rudders, lifebuoys are motifs that will perfectly complement the nautical style. Maritime arrangements are also often confused with the American Hampton style. Both feature natural materials and a similar color scheme. However, in the Hampton style, instead of simplicity, we rely on luxurious and massive furniture to create an interior with the atmosphere of a luxury resort.

Seaside colors

In no other style is the color scheme as distinctive as in nautical interior design. The basis is white and blue. These are the colors of the sea, waves topped by white foam on rough blue water. For good reason, they are associated with the tranquility of the sea. Blue has always symbolized tranquility. White, on the other hand, is the color of harmony, lightness and order. Blue will bring serenity and balance to the interior, and white will perfectly complement this theme. Surrounding yourself with a nautical style will make your living room a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. A great variety will be the introduction of green, yellow and red. Gold or silver decorations will add elegance to the interior. However, be sure to choose one of these shades. In combination, they will not look good. White and blue also go perfectly with wooden accessories.

DIY nautical style

We can also make accessories that will bring a seaside atmosphere to the interior on our own. Vacation photos are perfect for this. An even better effect will be achieved by hanging them on the wall with paper clips and ordinary string. We can also use a bottle for decoration. It will remind us of stories of letters thrown ashore. The bottle will look great as a vase or lamp base. It also looks great covered with paint. Use what is natural and easy to find on the beach. Shells, corals and starfish brought back from vacation will create an intriguing composition. Placed on a dresser or windowsill, it will give the living room a summer atmosphere. With the help of a nautical rope we can create a fabric for the frame of a mirror or pin up curtains. It will also look great as a cord for a lamp. A chest can also create a charming decoration. A large model will serve well as a cabinet or table. Smaller pieces will hold jewelry or souvenirs from the sea.
