"Often the best inspiration does not come from the field of design and architecture at all." Katarzyna Orwat in the series "10 questions to an interior designer"

"10 Questions to an Interior Architect" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...". This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Katarzyna Orwat talks about her approach to design.

Katarzyna Orwat - founder and chief designer of Orwat Design. She emphasizes that she does not create designs, but finished interiors. She assures that cooperation with an architect is a guarantee of a professional approach to interior design, unconventional solutions and space tailored to individual needs and savings.

1. For me, a house is...

A refuge, no longer a fortress. A space where I want to hide and celebrate my privacy. A place with a heart that I want to share with my family, loved ones and those who are important in my life. My home is also an extension of who I am and a space that expresses how I feel inside. It is a reflection of my aesthetics. In it I fulfill my stylistic needs and, above all, experiment.

2. The key to a successful interior design is....

Trust - mutual, between the investor and the designer.

Idea - a guiding idea, consistently implemented.

Courage - in making more empathetic decisions and listening to the needs of the household members or skillfully executing them.

3. I look for inspiration in...

By looking around carefully. Most often I find them where I expect them least. Often the best inspiration does not come from the field of design and architecture at all, but comes in passing.

4. In cooperation with a developer the most important thing is....

Again, trust and understanding. Similar values, even those of life. A thread of understanding and willingness to work together. Then the project and implementation can not fail.

5. My favorite design style is...

Eclectic style, a bit undefinable. Such a tweaked elegance of minimalism, with a not inconsiderable hint of coziness, nonchalance and courage to unconventional combinations.

6. The most valuable object in my home is...

Slowly it is art that is becoming the most valuable item. There are also some design elements that already come under art and I call them a kind of "capital investment". I am thinking here of, for example, interior elements from Zięta Studio, (PLOPP and RONDO) or my favorite "swing" - SWING - from Iwona Kosicka.

7. The most common mistake when creating an interior by yourself is...

Wanting to implement all the ideas and inspirations we have seen.

8. My favorite material is....

Stone

9. Trend that I wish would pass already is....

Everything is always for something. We change, the world changes. Every monster finds its amateur. I bow to all trends that really are them, that is, they reign undivided for a long time and are doing well.

10. Someday I would like, to live in....

A country house, by the water and woods.
