What is a mounting adhesive?
Assembly glue is a special type of adhesive used to fix various materials, such as wood, metal, plastics or ceramics. It is a high-strength adhesive that provides a permanent bond between components.
Mounting adhesives are commonly used in the construction industry for mounting items such as skirting boards, drywall and trim. Mounting adhesives are also useful for installing items as part of home repairs or renovations, such as attaching shelves, brackets, etc.
Mounting adhesives are usually available in paste or liquid form. They often set in a short time, which allows fast and effective fixing of items. Before using a mounting adhesive, it is recommended to thoroughly clean the surface and prepare it to ensure maximum durability of the bond.

Types of mounting adhesives
Acrylic adhesives
These are flexible adhesives with high tensile strength. They are commonly used in the construction industry for assembling various materials, such as wood, metal, ceramics and plastics. Acrylic adhesives are weather-resistant, making them suitable for outdoor use.
Cyanoacrylate adhesives
Also known as quick-setting adhesives or hot-setting adhesives. They are fast-drying and provide permanent bonds between different materials. Cyanoacrylate adhesives are often used in household and for assembling small items.
Epoxy adhesives
They consist of two components, a resin and a hardener. The products need to be mixed before use. They form very durable and strong joints that are resistant to water, chemicals and temperature. Epoxy adhesives are often used in industrial, maintenance and repair applications, especially in areas where very strong joints are required.
Polyurethane-based assembly adhesives
They are characterized by high flexibility and resistance to dynamic loads. They are often used in the construction industry for the installation of structural components such as skirting boards, insulation and wood panels.
Silicone-based mounting adhesives
These are flexible adhesives resistant to moisture and weather conditions. They are often used to seal joints and install components in areas exposed to water, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
How long does a mounting adhesive take to dry?
The drying time of mounting glue can vary depending on the type, the materials being bonded and the thickness of the adhesive layer. Cyanoacrylate adhesives are known for their rapid drying. Typically, once the adhesive is applied to the surface and the parts are joined together, it sets in seconds or couple of minutes. Drying time for epoxy adhesives can be longer and usually ranges from a couple minutes to a few hours. Full setting of the adhesive can take up to several days, depending on the thickness of the layer and weather conditions. Polyurethane-based adhesives typically dry in a few hours up to couple days, depending on layer thickness, humidity and temperature. Acrylic-based mounting adhesives dry within a few hours, but can take up to several days to fully set.
What can mounting glue be used for?
Wood
Mounting glue is often used for the installation of wooden components, such as baseboards, planks, trim, etc.
Metal
Mounting glue can also be used to attach metal components such as handles, hardware, ornaments, etc.
Plastics
With the help of mounting glue, you can mount various types of plastics, such as PVC, ABS, polystyrene, polycarbonate, etc.
Ceramics
Mounting glue can be used to install ceramic tiles, mosaics, etc.
Glass
Mounting adhesive can also be used to install glass items such as mirrors, glass panels, etc.
Fabrics
Depending on the type of mounting adhesive, it can also be used to attach fabrics, such as upholstery or decorative fabrics.
Building materials
Mounting adhesive can be used to attach various building materials, such as drywall, insulation, wood or stone panels.
Stone and concrete
Some specialized mounting adhesives can be used to install items made of stone and concrete.
Polyurethane foam
Mounting glue will also work well for attaching polyurethane foam.

What dissolves mounting glue?
Mounting glue, especially high-quality one, is difficult to remove with ordinary chemical solvents. However, there are some substances that can help remove it from various surfaces. For example, acetone can be an effective solution for some types of mounting adhesives, especially those based on cyanoacrylates. However, it should be used with caution, as it can also damage some materials, such as plastic or paint finishes. Isopropanol is a milder solvent. Some oils, such as vegetable oil or mineral oil, can help dissolve mounting glue. Saturate the adhesive with oil to make it easier to remove. Special adhesive removers are also available on the market. However, always read the manufacturer's instructions before using them.
