The quiet heart of the home. Better kitchen acoustics with Franke appliances

15 of May '24

Ambient noise can be tiring. This led to a discussion about acoustic smog, which is sometimes compared to polluted air. That's why it's worth choosing appliances with reduced noise levels. Here are three quiet suggestions for kitchens from Franke that will help you to create a more comfortable interior.

The harmfulness of noise is often downplayed. Meanwhile, prolonged unwanted sounds — even of lower intensity, but too high or too low, monotonous or distracting, penetrating or simply inappropriate for the place and time — negatively affect the psyche. The effects can be severe: from dangerous distraction and aggression, to constant fatigue and sleep problems, to depression or even mental disorders. The damage caused by noise is tangible. The World Health Organization (WHO) clearly indicates that noise is the second most important cause of ill health in the European Union, after smog.

We deal with excessive noise in various ways.

- Behind ever-tighter windows and doors, we leave the street bustle behind. Draped curtains, soft carpets, special wall coverings and upholstered furniture help us dampen the sounds from behind the walls. However, the appliances we install in apartments or houses can also be a source of noise — notes Katarzyna Skonieczko, an architect from PRW Design studio.
- This is a particular problem in kitchens that are open to the living room — then not only the functional heart of the house, but also the space for relaxation and sometimes sleep, is exposed to acoustic smog — she adds.

That's why the Franke brand meets the needs of people who value silence, offering products that effectively reduce ambient noise.

Sink without resonance

The source of noise in the apartment is sometimes the sink, where a mass of kitchen work is carried out. Low-end models often act like a drum. But it doesn't have to be that way.

- Models made of Fragranite, which resembles stone, are inherently distinguished by excellent acoustic performance. They do not resonate at all. On the other hand, steel sinks from the Maris line have bowls with a double Quiet Pad coating applied underneath, which reduces noise by 20% — points out Katarzyna Niezabitowska-Baj, a Franke expert.

And this is just the first of the many such features in Franke's range.

A murmuring stream from the faucet

Special attention should also be paid to the kitchen faucet, as some aerators generate a whirring noise, and the fast and difficult to fine-tune stream hits the washed surfaces hard. Fortunately, however, there are more modern solutions.

- Many Franke faucets are equipped with a laminar jet, which is well aerated thanks to a modern aerator, but at the same time compact and quiet. It flows smoothly around the items being washed, minimizing splashes and noise, and fills the dishes quickly. This gives you greater comfort, especially if you choose a model that has the option to switch the spray to a gentle shower, perfect for rinsing fruits, vegetables and mushrooms, as well as washing large pots and the sink bowl itself - points out the Franke expert.

Quiet breeze from the hood

Until recently, kitchen hoods were considered one of the noisiest appliances. Franke is breaking with this stereotype.

- The Sound Pro technology we developed not only reduces noise levels, but also reduces particularly unpleasant high frequencies for the ear. Therefore, Franke hoods equipped with it are simply quiet. Their operation does not interfere with conversations, listening to music or general domestic tranquility, especially in the case of kitchens open to the living room. Let's not forget that the key to quieter operation of hoods is also the proper installation of the device — says Katarzyna Niezabitowska-Baj.

All of this goes hand in hand with modern solutions for ease of operation, such as a touch-screen control, light color temperature control and 24-hour ventilation function, excellent energy efficiency (even A+) and a large selection of model variants and colors.
