Origami House is another project for which architects from Medusa Group invited lighting engineers from Zumtobel Group.
Set in the garden, near the main house of the hosts, it resembles an art installation or sculpture. In addition to its undoubtedly artistic function, however, it serves a very practical role as a guest house. Seemingly simple, with a geometric form, it creates a complex arrangement of steel structure, covered with graphite polyurethane coating. This allows for the effect of a visually light, paper-like form taken from the Japanese art of origami. The curved planes, both outside and inside, are a screen for natural light. Large panes of glass facing a garden lined with white gravel are a reference to Japanese rock gardens.

Inside, a resting space has been created, which, if necessary, turns into a guest room and a kind of asylum - a place of temporary seclusion and reflection. The calming effect is given by finishing with whitewashed plywood, a material associated with the architecture of wood and paper fusuma walls.
The house has two levels and a usable area of a little over 26 square meters. The first floor features a living area centered around a wood-burning fireplace and a kitchenette. A light in appearance but sturdy steel staircase leads to a compact attic with a skylighted bedroom and bathroom.
Designed by Zumtobel, the building's interior lighting perfectly complements the whole. The idea was to create a lighting system in such a way as to gently and subtly emphasize the architectural qualities of the interior, and to allow the user to create lighting scenes in a flexible and individual way. This was achieved through the use of SUPERSYTEM lighting fixtures and the LITECOM intelligent lighting management system, controlled through the CIRIA glass touch panel. The result? The ability to set any lighting mood.

General or accent lighting, direct or indirect light distribution, small and large components, up close and far away... these are just some of the advantages of Zumtobel's flagship product SUPERSYSTEM. It is a modular system of versatile lighting that has flawlessly dealt with the challenges of Origami House, allowing the greatest creativity, combined with a consistent and simple aesthetic that harmonizes with its surroundings.
The choice of Zumtobel as the lighting system contractor was no accident. The company provides lighting in some of the world's most famous museums, art and cultural venues, galleries, offices, showrooms and even historic churches. It was also perfect for this unusual project.
