The Habitat is a year-round or summer house, adapted for realization in the formula for application - it has 35 square meters of construction area. The architects designed it entirely using timber frame technology, so it can be completed in a few weeks. The form and choice of finishing materials are reminiscent of typical wooden highland barns. The functional program of the house includes a spacious living area on the first floor, a bathroom, a hallway, and one or two bedrooms on the mezzanine. The property is equipped with wooden shutters, with which it is possible to cover the windows when the residents are away for a long time.

Dobrawa Bies: What were the assumptions and design inspirations?
Mateusz Frankowski: Siedlisko is a bungalow in line with the now popular trend of building by application, so the main assumption was the building's square footage limited to 35 square meters. The form of the house was to be modern and traditional at the same time, its sloping roof and protruding eaves are typical features of traditional highland architecture, while the modern features are the large glazings, which further connect the interior with the surrounding nature.

Dobrawa: The houses resembles a hut hidden in the forest, and both its facade and interior are made of wood. Where did you come up with this decision? Please tell us more about the materials used.
Matthew: The house is wooden in every detail, it is designed using Scandinavian frame technology. The proposed facade is clad with heavily tanned boards, the interior is finished with light wainscoting for contrast, the whole is complemented by wooden windows and shutters. When choosing finishing materials, we were guided by the simple and pleasant association of a vacation in the middle of nowhere, with time spent in a wooden cottage.

Dobrawa: What requirements did the investors set for you? What elements are you most satisfied with, and what posed problems during the design work?
Matthew: This is our own initiative. We wanted to prove ourselves in designing houses of up to 35 square meters and create an object that would stand out in terms of quality compared to other such proposals available on the market.
Dobrawa: Thank you for the interview!
