CEMEX is supplying concrete for the reconstruction of the Swinoujscie Ferry Terminal. The ongoing modernization will make the terminal suitable for intermodal transport. The investment is being carried out by the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority SA. The general contractor for the investment is Budimex.
CEMEX is supplying concrete for , among other things, the construction of the flyover, the construction of the ferry berths, the track slab and the surface of the maneuvering and parking areas. For the construction of the flyover, which will connect the facilities with the terminal area, bridge concretes of the C30/37 to C50/60 class with F150 frost resistance and up to 4% water absorption are used. The structure of the ferry berths in the northern part of the facility will be built using hydrotechnical concrete of the C35/45 class with a frost resistance of F200. The surface of the track slab, on the other hand, will be made of specialized fibron concrete, class C35/45 with polymer fibers, which is used to create durable and load-resistant floors. In addition, the surface of the maneuvering and parking plaza will be made of specialized C35/45 surfacing concrete guaranteeing the handling of intermodal transport with a pressure of up to 140 tons/axle.
For the reconstruction of the terminal, CEMEX will also supply dry, contractor and SCC concrete.
The investment in Swinoujscie is an important project, of great significance for the city and the region. The success of the work depends, among other things, on the use of high-quality materials, including appropriate concrete products. CEMEX has in its portfolio of products that will ensure that the objects under construction have the right strength and can be used for many years. This is particularly important in the case of facilities, i.e. the ferry terminal, which are heavily used," says Michal Grys, Director of the Materials Division at CEMEX Poland.
about the investment
The terminal in Swinoujscie is one of four Polish ferry terminals. Its reconstruction began in autumn 2019. Thanks to infrastructure upgrades, the terminal will gain the ability to handle intermodal transport, including ferries up to 265 meters in length. It will also be adapted to provide a new type of transshipment services involving rail transport. The PLN 185 million investment is being carried out as part of a global project to optimize logistics chains between Scandinavia and Southern Europe. The investment schedule calls for all work to be completed by the end of 2021.
