Carl Bäckstrand (White Arkitekter) -.
lecture in the Masters of Architecture series
Already on April 21 at 18.00 there will be another lecture in the Masters of Architecture series. This time Carl Bäckstrand, a Swedish architect who serves as Deputy CEO at White Arkitekter, will come to Katowice.
The largest design office in all of Scandinavia boasts a team of more than 700 people. Importantly, it consists not only of architects, but also anthropologists, biologists and sustainability experts. They point out that only an interdisciplinary approach to architecture will meet the challenges of the future.

In 2013, the White Arkitekter studio won an international competition for the largest urban transformation of our time, which involved moving the town of Kiruna to a new location. It's a northern Swedish town that, due to mining damage, may soon collapse completely underground. However, residents do not want to close the mine that gives them work, so they have decided to move the entire town 3 kilometers away. The whole process is expected to be completed in 2033.
The Master of Architecture guest emphasizes sustainable urban design in his work. During his visit to Katowice, he will present his vision of what to do to make architecture completely climate-neutral by 2030 at the latest.
