Recreational areas and a bicycle high way are to be built in place of a road route that has been planned for decades. New buildings and urban plazas are also being designed. Officials are inviting public consultations on the master plan.
unrealized plans
The full scope of the masterplan development - Trasa Tysiąclecia and the area around the Warszawa Wschodnia station

The Tysiąclecia Route was a planned artery that would connect two parts of right-bank Warsaw - Praga-Północ and Praga-Południe. The wide street, which was to serve mainly cars, was to cross Skaryszewski Park and pass under the Warszawa Wschodnia railway station through a tunnel, connecting with al. Solidarności. A reserve of land was kept for this purpose, which today represents a huge potential for the revitalization of both neighborhoods. In the new officials' intentions, the area, once developed, is to better fit the requirements of a modern and greener city and the needs of its residents. Instead of inter-district roads, there will be local connections and pedestrian and bicycle routes, integrated with greenery and high-quality public space.
cleaning up the chaos

In the project prepared on behalf of the city by the Tło design team, under the direction of Michal Sikorski, the key is to connect the two sections of the Route near the Warszawa Wschodnia railway station. This is to be helped by a planned tunnel, serving both cars, bicycles, pedestrians and streetcars. Currently, passage in this area is only possible on foot. Such a connection is insufficient due to the heavy traffic that prevails in the area.

A new feature of the concept is a bicycle highway running along the entire length of the planned route , providing a fast and convenient bicycle connection between neighborhoods that are now cut off from each other. The city also plans to create numerous pedestrian-friendly places. Local roads for automobile traffic will be laid out, as well as a route for the streetcar. All the proposals can be implemented in this space without excessive interference with its shape. The suggested solutions are less intrusive and tailored to local needs.
Millennium squares will appear along the entire route

The new concept is intended to create spaces with a more human character and to preserve as much greenery as possible in the fabric of the city. The projectis an invitation to discussion - its individual elements can be implemented at different times and in different forms. The decision on the final form will depend on the votes of residents. Hence also its sketchy form. Unfortunately, visualizations and photos of mock-ups may prove to be unreadable to many viewers in this form.

The new concept for the development of Tysiąclecia Route is being presented to residents as part of public consultations. This is only an introduction to the discussion about the area. The city wants to gather residents' opinions on the subject, so that the final designation, appearance and development of the area will best suit their needs. The consultations run until April 30. They will include an online meeting on April 12. Two on-site consultations will also be held:
- April 21 at Elementary School No. 30 at 2 Kawęczyńska Street
- April 28 at the Praga-Południe District Office.
More information can be found on the city's public consultation page.
