Black tiles on trend. It is not only good design

06 of August '24

Modern architecture is increasingly undertaking projects using modern and elegant materials. This also applies to roofs. Aesthetics, however, is not everything - trends show that we are eagerly reaching for practical solutions. These include black clay roof tiles, which have recently gained popularity and combine practicality with durability and great looks.

Black tiles give buildings an elegant and modern look. This color, unique in its simplicity, suits a variety of architectural styles, from traditional to minimalist to very contemporary. Black tiles can create a strong contrast with the building's light-colored facades or with the surroundings, which is sure to make the house stand out from the rest. No wonder it is one of the most sought-after solutions in recent years.

Many people wonder if you have to pay a high price for the beautiful appearance of black tile in the form of a hotter house because of its color. What is it really like?

Black tile can heat up more than natural or copper-colored tiles. However, the properties of ceramic mean that the color does not significantly affect the temperature inside. What's more, in winter, ceramic tile keeps the heat better and longer, says Artur Kopiec of Röben Polska.

Röben has recently enriched its range with black and flat BERGAMO tiles in a glazed version. This tile was previously available in two variants - anthracite engobed, and glazed platinum.

Trend for flat tiles

When designing a roof, we can bet on the timeless, classic holender, distinguished by its S-shape, but it is completely flat tiles or those with flattened elements that are increasingly chosen by specialists and customers.

Recently, the simplicity of construction is gaining ground with the use of traditional products in new guises. Black flat tiles are catching the attention of those planning to build houses, fitting perfectly into these trends. This type of roofing gives buildings a subtle elegance and unique character. Despite the growing interest, flat tiles are still a distinctive feature.

When designing a house, however, it is necessary to keep in mind local zoning plans, which may dictate the color of the roofing or the angle of the roof pitch, the Röben expert adds.

Energy-efficient and environmentally friendly roofs

An investment in clay tiles is profitable in the long term, and at the same time ecological. The clay used to make tiles is a natural raw material, free of chemical dyes, metals and other artificial additives. Ceramic is a long-lasting material, and thanks to its durability and resistance to adverse weather conditions, tiles made from it require virtually no maintenance. In addition, ceramic provides excellent thermal insulation, maintaining the right temperature inside the building, and effectively dampens sound, which increases the acoustic comfort of residents.

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for roofs that not only withstand harsh weather conditions, but also effectively take advantage of intense sunlight. In response to these needs, an increasing number of tile manufacturers, including Röben, are offering solutions for installing photovoltaic systems, including on black and flat BERGAMO tiles.

Black clay roof tiles are an example of how aesthetics can go hand in hand with practicality and environmental responsibility, creating roofs that are beautiful, durable and consistently attractive despite the passing years.
