The Zielona Gora BWA gallery is turning 55 this year, and the program of planned events included several exhibitions referring to this anniversary. The prevailing situation, however, made the gallery's director, Wojciech Kozlowski, decide to realize a slightly different exhibition, which is, as he writes, an expression of the impossibility of showing the complex history of the place, rather than a summary, creating a situation for reflection rather than a final determination, showing what has not been shown rather than a classic exposition.
The exhibition will include old photos, forgotten texts, props from the warehouse, works by artists who played an important role in the life of the gallery. Publications, which are concrete traces of expositions, documentation of activities for the city space and objects that, detached from their meanings, become something else. The selection of the presented objects from the collections of the BWA and Lubuska Zachęta Contemporary Art is subjective, resulting from the memories, associations and experiences of the gallery director.
I have not tried to create a timeline or some kind of hierarchy, what is historically important is intertwined here with what is important to me. This exhibition does not pretend to generalize, it does not try to be definitive and the only one. There is a narrative here, but I won't give it away, it is personal, extremely subjective, but probably not unfair. Maybe not necessarily fair either. - Wojciech Kozlowski writes.
