On May 13 of last year, we were saddened to learn of the death of Silesian architect Stanislaw Niemczyk (1943-2019), the author of many exceptional projects especially of sacred architecture, the recipient of, among other things, the Honorary Award of SARP (1996) and the Award of the Year of the Association of Polish Architects for the design of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Tychy.
This summer saw the premiere of a documentary film prepared by the Tychy City Museum about the outstanding architect - "Niemczyk - the last architectural rebel", and recently the Institute of Architecture Documentation of the Silesian Library in Katowice produced the first part of the project "Film portraits of architects of Upper Silesia of the second half of the 20th century". The collection presents profiles of representatives of post-war architecture in Upper Silesia, including Stanislaw Niemczyk, and the material collected by the filmmakers was compiled in the form of several hours of film notations and shorter forms - about forty-minute film portraits of architects.
Thanks to the work of the Katowice-based Institute for Architecture Documentation, we can embark on a moving walk through the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare in Tychy together with its architect, Stanislaw Niemczyk.
