Soudal solutions to increase energy efficiency in buildings

27 of April '23

One of the biggest challenges facing residential architecture today is the energy efficiency of buildings. This is not only a matter of complying with stringent EU requirements, but above all investing in technologies that ensure the lowest possible heating bills. Soudal, which is one of the most important advocates on the Polish market of technologies and systems that fully comply with the European strategy for energy-efficient construction (EPBD), offers investors effective solutions to improve energy efficiency both for new buildings and for thermo-modernized facilities.

Energy-efficient window and door installation

Three-layer window installation, also known as "tight installation," is already a standard in energy-efficient construction in Poland. The Soudal Window System, developed by Soudal and proven on thousands of investments, is a perfect example of a solution to achieve the highest thermal insulation parameters of the window joint. The system is based on the use of three layers with well-defined properties. The middle layer is polyurethane mounting foam with excellent thermal insulation properties. It tightly fills the free spaces, preventing heat loss through the gap around the window or door. A protective role for the foams is played by vapor barrier tape. Vapor-permeable tape protects the foam from moisture penetration from the outside of the building, while vapor-proof tape protects against moisture penetration from inside the building.

Replacing woodwork with airtight installation

In the case of thermal upgrading of buildings, the use of Soudatight liquid membranes - a complementary part of the Soudal Window System - is particularly recommended for interior and exterior sealing. They are extremely easy to apply and can be applied even to very uneven substrates, which we face when replacing window frames in old and even historic buildings during their thorough renovation. Using Soudatight liquid membranes, contractors are able to carry out the work quickly, plus - the cost to the investor is really small. Importantly for difficult substrates - Soudatight coatings are highly flexible, do not require priming of the substrate and can be used even on damp or slightly dusty surfaces.

New possibilities for energy-efficient construction

Soudal experts have gone a step further, proposing SoudaFrame SWI (Soudal Window Installation) - a system for installing windows in the thermal insulation layer, certified by the prestigious Passive House Institute. This solution, combined with the Soudal Window System, makes it possible to achieve even higher insulation parameters of the window joint. In SoudaFrame SWI, the window is mounted in front of the face of the structural wall, directly on a special mounting frame, made of GFPR - fiberglass-reinforced plastic. In this way, the need for mechanical fasteners, which are the main cause of thermal bridges in the thermal insulation layer around the window, is reduced during the installation of the joinery. The SoudaFrame SWI system is suitable for all typical window profiles, allows the dimensions of the installation frame to be precisely matched to the window opening, and can be used in both new and revitalized buildings.
