"Shipyard Memorabilia" is an initiative to encourage Danzigers to spend time at home with their loved ones. All treasure hunters should get ready for a new expedition!
"Shipyard Memorabilia," another initiative to mobilize all Gdansk residents to stay at home, has been initiated by the Imperial Shipyard Development, owner of 16ha of post-shipyard land in Gdansk. The company's initiative involves encouraging everyone to contact family members who once worked at the shipyard and find memorabilia, photographs or other materials documenting the history of the Gdansk Shipyard in their home archives and share the results of their search on social media.
In order to limit the spread of the virus, we spend almost most of the day isolated at home, looking for interesting ways to use our excess free time. Limiting contact with seniors in particular is one of the recommendations of doctors, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't talk to them, if only by phone or online.
Safety is an absolute priority for us. - Gerard Schuurman, director of the Kaiser Shipyard project, says. - That' s why, while encouraging everyone to stay home, we are offering another interesting way to spend this difficult time.

In search of treasures
That's why Imperial Shipyard Development encourages you to spend this difficult time of isolation going through old photos, searching through closets, drawers and attics and finding unique shipyard memorabilia and contacting family members who once worked at the shipyard. Revisiting memories of their work in the Shipyard or the involvement of others during the strikes as well can be a great way to learn more about family history.
It's no secret that almost every resident of Gdansk has a former shipbuilder in his or her family, so in many home archives there are hundreds of shipyard tools, clothes, archival documents or photographs that carry a lot of history, and we want to learn about them and secure them for future generations. Let our time at home be turned into a sentimental journey to the past. - Gerard Schuurman adds.
The company encourages everyone to join the campaign via social media by sharing a photo and tagging it with the hashtags #storagehistoric, #newhistories and #storagehistoric. There is also a "Your Stories" tab on the Imperial Shipyard website, specially prepared for such occasions.
At this link it is possible to submit photographs with a description. The results of the home-basementsearch will be presented on the social media of the Imperial Shipyard.
